I was wandering if anyone has tried to make a longbow. I would like to start shooting one, and I thought it would be cool to make it myself. Also, I don't see paying the kind of money that they want for a new one. I refuse to pay $300 for a stick and a string.

My wife made her own, arrows too.
The give a two day class at the NMLRA gathering at Friendship, you'll have a finished bow to shoot at the end of the two days.

This year we a had a group come in for a weekend at Morgantown Conservation Club; they made their own bows and we leave some old McKenzie's out so the shot a mini course with them when they were done. They are planning on doing it again next summer.

I have an osage stave curing in my garage right now that I'm going to try out next year, never made one before but it looks interesting. BTW, Sportsman's Guide has a PSE Legacy long bow on sale right now for $170.

Yes, I do, and I build them every day, but I'm afraid $300 wouldn't cover the costs of my materials, your best bet to get your feet wet is to build a board bow or finish a glue up, both are relatively easy and will give you the confidence to continue if you choose, enjoy,Steve/Voodoo Kustom longbows.

You can do this too........My friend Darrell , his 300# hog,and a bow I built for him, shot twice, both complete pass throughs, (one went through both shoulders), you can read about their hunt in the Dec./Jan issue of TBM in an article written by Brian Sorrells..
