I didn't want to hijack the thread about if anyone had any sucess so far bowhunting, but there was a mention from someone about seeing 2 small bull elk, and another person said it was ok to shoot them because they are not native to Indiana. Warning: That law was changed 2 years ago. You can NOT kill any animal, be an escaped elk, stag, reindeer, caribou, cougar, gorilla, etc if you happen across one while deer hunting. You use to be allowed to kill any non-native species, but doing so now will get you into hot water! www.in.gov/legislative/iac/T03120/A00090.PDF?Section 312 IAC 9-3-18.5 I don't want someone getting busted because someone from the internet told them it was ok to do it......

I believe you can still shoot hogs tho. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
This was an emergency law that went into effect shortly after my buddy's video aired on the news of a large black cat that, according to the DNR didn't exist. Soo many reliable people were seeing that thing!

This is very good info because I had called the DNR about 2 years ago and asked them if I could kill the escaped cougar if I seen it and they told me I could because there were no laws protecting animals that were not suppose to be in Indiana. I did not realize this law had changed but thanks to this fine site I do now!
Thanks Travis!

There is an exception to that, unless it's been changed since the last time I read it. I believe that it says something along the lines of "the landowner (or someone given permission from the LO) may shoot an "exotic" if they are causing damage to the property" (not verbatim, but you get the idea). However, it doesn't define what constitutes "damage".

I'm not certain, but I believe the landowner must still obtain some type of nuisance permit, from the biologist perhaps (similarly to depredation tags).
