Hey all. I just moved here from Michigan and don't know anyone who ones land. That being said, I going to be hunting some of the public lands (By the way, Indiana is WAY ahead of MI in terms of managing their properties). Mississinewa is the closest to where I live. I got up there this morning hoping to hunt some land I scouted out, but was a little discouraged when I got there and saw 5 trucks parked near where I was thinking of hunting. I ended up going in and found a spot and actually saw dear (much to my surprise since I scrambled to find a spot). I was just curious, is this much traffic normal for Mississinewa? Or have I just found a high traffic area? Are any of the other public lands less traveled? Thanks for any help you can give.

napid79 What area are you hunting? Sounds a little busy! Iam hunting in Area 5/I, Its on the East side of State Rd 13. There are a few areas that get busy, I prefer the less traveled? Although i messed my Knee up, Can't hunt for who knows when? Did you just move to the state or did you get much time to scout, I will give you a tip find some other land during shotgun atleast opening day, because the Orange army invades it pretty hard 1st weekend. Maybe we can hook up and i can drive you around and show you some hot spots.Welcome to H.I And to the State. Where are you living at?

Mississinewa is a doe haven right now. I saw a ton of them friday morning.... It is also a place filled with people who cut down entire trees to clear shooting lanes... And steal stands... Daworz is a straight shooter though.. cant wait to meet ya one of these days up there... If you think its bad now wait until the orange army invades lol...... best of luck and I drive a Tan 2500 Silverado... Name is Matt.. If ya see me out and about stop me and we can talk.. Ive got to also say that in 8 years of hunting this place, Last years first and second rut is the most successful breeding season ive ever seen.... I sincerely hope alot of hunters take some does because there is a ton of them this year...

Well, I am glad to hear there are more than a handful of deer up there. I'll gladly take a doe to get some meat in the freezer! I found some rubs up there too, so I am assuming there are some bucks too. Anybody heard of guys taking decent bucks out of there? Again, I am from MI so I am used to a lot of spikes and forks coming off state lands.

Plain and simple..... If you hunt close to the road, or easy access like most of the hunters out there do then you will see the spikes and forks.... If you get in early and get in as DEEP as you can to the property, your chances of a bigger buck are better..... I have heard that Salamonie has really been producing as of late.. We are going to check it out next week...Best of luck!!
