I am hunting some property about a mile across the street from the Jefferson proving grounds.
I saw NOTHING yesterday! Not one deer all day. There were a bunch of jets flying around the grounds all day so it was tough to listen to the woods with those engines roaring. I didn't feel too bad as there are usually tons of deer along the fence of the proving grounds and there were none in the morning or at night.
I did find a pemanent ladder stand on this property that was new. I guess I should leave the tresspasser a note to remove his stand.

I hunted an elevated ladder stand until around 9:30am and saw a small raccoon and nothing else. I got down and carefully moved down a logging road into a different area. I spooked 2 does and eventually saw a nice 8 pointer down the road aways, and initially he had no clue I was there. I took a knee and had no cover around me at all, so I tried to keep a low profile while positioning myself for a quick shot. I knew that if I moved at all, he was going to dissapear. The deer kept moving towards me while feeding and would look up every few steps and never noticed me. He got to 35 yards, turned broadside, and I was thinking too much and never drew the bow back. The next thing I knew was he was under 30 yards and moving directly towards me. He finally saw me and bolted around 28 yards or so. Hesitation with taking a shot that I know that I would have nailed, cost me the biggest deer that I would have shot to date! A very fun start to the season though!!

Went back out yesterday. Saw two does but not shots at them.
I found two more ladder stands on the property. I wrapped the ladders in duct tape and wrote on them with a sharpy to remove them.
