I have had 2 stands stolen already this year... It is apparantly someone with a climber becuase they were both portables and the only way up to them was with climbing sticks/climbers...... One was stolen from the model airport area area and the other was near the sign in station right off of 13.... I had heavy duty locks on both of them but they were cut in different methods because I found both of the cables under the tree.... One was cut, the other looked like a hand grinder... sad sad people.. We also put a ladder stand up September 1st....... I scouted the ENTIRE area for 100 yards to make sure no other stands were up.... Well we went back last weekend and there was another ladder set up 30 yards from ours.... I was a bit disgruntled at first and ready to give the person the benefit of the doubt, until I noticed two things....... 1. No Name, No Number, No address on the ladder 2. The person/people had SAWED a ENTIRE TREE as big as my thigh completely down and thrown dirt over the stub, an obvious attempt at hiding their tracks... They left all of the branches (dying branches) right next to the sawed off tree.. Would you all contact the DNR about this??? We have also found 3 stands that were left out all year, another apparant attempt for people to keep their places secure..... We know this because these same stands were there in July Im tired of playing by the rules only to have others mess it up for us.... But when you dont have private land access you get used to it.... Oh well, just thought I would throw the warning out there for my hunting brothers and sisters...

I'd take pictures and call the DNR in a heart beat! I'm sure you feel like "why should I follow the rules, no one else does!". I feel for you bro. I'd set up a well hidden trail cam to get video evidence of this scum!

I tell ya.... I am really torn about this...... this is a great hunting spot and If I contact them my stand will surely get stolen..... Im trying to find out who is hunting the stand so I can at least get their license plate number... That way I have a lead when (not a matter of if but when) it gets stolen lol...... I think We are going to contact them tommorrow... Question is, will they meet us out there and take a look??? If so, what will they do?? Thanks everyone!!! really appreciate this...
Matt

If I were going to call them, I'd do it now before deer season comes in and they get real busy. I like ti think they would come out. The stand isn't properly labled and they destroyed state property.

Believe me they wont do a thing about it. I asked them once about stands left in the woods all year and they told me they didn't have enough people to police the issue but thanked me any way.
If you are going to hunt on the reservoirs use climbers and have several spots to hunt or you end up in the situation your in now. Good luck, h.h.

Probably not about the all year stand issue, but I bet they would jump on tree cutters.... This was a good size tree im tellin ya.... Plus, the idiot completely exposed his stand to a field at his left.. Ill give it a try and if it doesn't work we will just beat the idiots in there every morning/evening.... Thanks

That sucks that you have to deal with that, but hopefully something will be done about it.

Hey everyone..... My cousin just phoned me while I was working... He went back out there to take a picture of the Tree evidence and the stand was gone..... I have no clue what happend... Ours is still there (for how long Im afraid to ask) but the other one is gone... Maybe they got nailed, maybe they got scared, I dont know....... I really didnt want it to come to this,,, I am all for coexisting with people... I was going to tell the guy/gal/people if I saw their vehicle in the area I would move on and if they saw mine maybe they could do the same.... Now its got me wondering what is going on here..... If my stand makes it to the weekend, im going to quadruple lock it...

I've hunted at Miss. for many years and heard many stories of stands being stolen. I've only lost one stand, and it was there. Me and my friends have stands at other places and don't have any problems, but I'll never leave a stand at Miss. again.

Ive hunted there 10 years this year and we finally noticed one thing a couple years ago..... If you hunt a finger or a section of the public woods that borders a privately owned field, or a private property , then your stand has a greater chance of getting stolen..... These two however, were nowhere near private land and in the heart of the property......
