I bought my daughter an apprentice license for fall turky online however there is no habitat stamp in the apprentice section so I cannot get her one online. Does she not need one or is this a screw up by IDNR? I have a habitat stamp for the year but was not going to buy a fall turkey license since she wants a turkey - I was going to hunt with her but go for whitetails; do I need to get a fall turkey license now?

She does not need one. The youth apprentice hunting license covers ALL licenses and tags except for the federal duck stamp.

In that example there was assistance by calling etc. I'm going to work on deer, she's on her own for the hunting part of it; We've discussed what she needs to do and all that. I'll be up in a stand, shell be on the ground but we'll be 10-15' apart horizontally. Looking at the apprectice requirements you can't have more than 2 and you have to be in speaking distance of the apprentice so that shouldn't be a problem. You do bring up an interesting point, kind of an odd situation with the 2 seasons running concurrent and the 2 people after different game - wonder how that affects the answer in the other thread? I wish IN would simplify and clarify the whole mess. Now it does say the hunter has to have a license as well as the apprentice.....it does not specify what kind - I have the deer license, more than 1 actually (and of course my habitat stamp) Sigh, off we go on another trip through the IN code and let's see how vague it is this time.

OK here it is: Sec. 1.7. (a) As used in this section, "apprentice hunter" means an individual who hunts under an apprentice hunting license issued under this section. (b) The department may issue an apprentice hunting license to a resident or nonresident in lieu of any hunting license authorized under section 1 of this chapter. (c) The commission shall establish a fee to be paid by an applicant for an apprentice hunting license issued under this section. (d) An apprentice hunter may hunt in Indiana without completing the course of instruction in hunter education offered by the department or the department's agent under IC 14-22-35. (e) An apprentice hunter must: (1) comply with the requirements under this article and the rules adopted by the director; and (2) while hunting be accompanied by an individual who: (A) is at least eighteen (18) years of age; and (B) either holds a valid hunting license issued under this chapter or is not required to have a hunting license under IC 14-22-11. (f) An individual described in subsection (e)(2) who accompanies an apprentice hunter: (1) must be in close enough proximity to monitor the apprentice hunter's activities and communicate with the apprentice hunter at all times; and (2) may not accompany more than two (2) holders of an apprentice hunting license at one (1) time. (g) An individual may not purchase more than three (3) apprentice hunting licenses of any type during the individual's lifetime. What do you make of that? I have a valid license, several infact...... how do figure this one will be enforced? Everytime I look into something like this I find another regulation where the wording was not well done. It doesn't say "any license" nor does it say "a license for the game hunted by the apprentice."

Sounds like you probably need to call the CO in the area where you'll be hunting.....

Sounds like you probably need to call the CO in the area where you'll be hunting..... It would be interesting to ask the question of 20 CO's and see how many different answers I get! Ehh, I'll call DNR.

I bet you would get about 20 different answers. To me it just sounds like you have to have a valid hunting license of any type, but you never know how it will be interpreted by others.
