Just bought a new 1894 marlin, .44 mag. Have shot a couple brands of ammo thru it, including LE. Has anybody else tried it , chrono'd it, or shot any game with it? It is extremely accurate in my new gun, and was wanting imput from anybody that has used it.

I work for a Municipality which has been operating a State Authorized deer culling program for many years. One of the rifles we've used is the Marlin 1894 chambered for the .44 magnum. Since we operate in an urban setting we try to be as quiet as possible and the .44 mag was a little loud. I switched to the .44 special and found it to be a lot more quiet. As such, it seemed better suited to our needs. I've probably shot 50 deer with it and found it works well. As everyone knows, it's all about shot placement. I've also used a .308, .22 hornet, and 12 ga. slug The more powerful rounds might drop them a little quicker, but the .44 will do the job.
