Ok, I read an article a while back talking about hunting superstitions or pre-hunt rituals that some hunters insist on before going into the woods. Some "signs" were for luck and others were taboo. Since we'll be bow hunting before you know it, does anyone have any superstitions or lucky hats, or rabbits feet, or whatever they have or need to do before going hunting? I really don't that I can think of, except for turkey hunting. I have a large arrow head that I keep in my vest. I found the arrow head on public ground in 01' hunting turkeys with my college roommate. Been there every since. I'm sure it's lucky.

I carry the bow glove I shot my first deer with when hunting. Also, a couple of years ago I started hunting again after a 7 year abscence. The first dee I shot, I took at as she angled towards me at about 5 yards. I knew better than to take that shot, but excitement took over and I hit her and lost her, first lost deer ever. To remind me not to be stupid in the future, I picked up a piece of my tracking tape and tied it into my boot laces. Seeing that tape was a constant reminder to keep my head. It worked.

I try to avoid looking any deer in the eye at all costs, seems they have a sense about that and will bust you.

If I don't look directly at them I can approach my "backyard deer" to within 8-10 feet. If I stare at them they bolt. It's a Predator/Prey/Dominance thing.
You MIGHT get away with a staredown with a PO'd Buck, but probably not.

I got a "lucky" Hunting wool shirt that my Dad had, and I usually score when I wear it. I also tell others, who hunt with me,..."You only need one shell".

I had a lucky head and face cover until I killed my buck last year.... I lost it somewhere along the way and I still look for it everytime I go out to that woods.... I guess this year will tell if it was the face mask... or just my skill.... I think the former.... but hope for the latter.

My biggest thing is my morning routine,, I still follow the same pattern of getting ready and getting in the woods that I did 30 years ago.

The one thing I never do is take a 4 wheeler hunting with me. The less prepared I am to drag one out the more luck I have.

I always have my wife jump the gun or bow the first day of every season.
It helps her wake up enough to make breakfast.
I always feel a little like I jinxed myself if I carry a dedicated skinning knife in to the woods.
I hate to pass an easy shot on anything because it feels like I'm insulting what God offered me. One season I did that and he didn't offer me anything for two years.
An oatmeal creme pie in your pocket is lucky. Always eat one soon as I shoot one and before I get out of the tree.
Carrying something from one you've shot before is good for the mojo. I like to make things out of any little horns or some piece of every one I kill to carry with me later, horns, a rib knife, buttons, a tail for a decoy, bullets from one you've killed are lucky. You can't get luckier than the luck in a bullet that's killed a deer cleanly. Arrows too. Made a hat band out of one's teeth one time.

I have a routine that I use to get ready on every hunt. I dont know if it works or not. But, I will tell you one thing that I race sprint cars and there isn't anyone or anything in this word that has as many superstitions as racers.

My one thing is granpas knife. It goes on every hunt. Another one began last year after he passed away, he gave me his good luck ring , it's a horseshoe with the diamonds from his mothers wedding ring.

I noticed last year that if I drive my car instead of the SUV I tend to kill something and then have to proceed to drive it home for 2 and a half hours stuffed in the trunk. I will be driving the car more this year just to see if it rings true again.
