The hunters I've talked to have mixed emotions about shooting albinos. Some say it's bad luck. Some say get them out of the gene pool. I have a fetish for them...I'd LOVE to kill one. My wife would hate it because I'd have to do a full body mount on it. What's your opinion?

It's legal, they're tasty too, I'm not seeing a reason not to.

They are very unique trophies.
The only albino I ever shot at I missed. It was a button buck back when it was just sticks and strings hunting.
Probably because an albino was the first deer that you ever saw in the wild???

It would probably have to be a mature one; they're not as interesting to me as the piebalds and mellanistic deer.

I would definitely shoot one if given the chance. I don't think a hunter will get too many chances at an albino deer in their lifetime.

I killed one about 4 years ago in Pike county. I was hunting on reclaimed coal mine ground and spotted what I thought was a white dog laying on a hill side about 300 yards off. I got my binocs out and seen it was an albino doe. The stalk was on. I gut crawled at least 250 yards through some of the nastiest stickers and brambles that you could imagine. I got within 50-70 yards and blew on my True Talker grunter I was shocked when the albino and 2 other normal deer stood up. I never seen the normal deer. I had my muzzle loader and it dropped in its tracks. When I walked up on it I started regretting shooting it. I took it to Sugar ridge Fish and Wildlife to check it in and was told that it was good that I shot it. They said that the albino gene pool is bad for whitetail deer and to take it out of the pool. I took it home and skinned and butchered it. I fleshed the hide and put it in the freezer. About 6 months later I was looking on Ebay at the deer racks for sale there and seen an albino deer cape up for bid and it was over 200.00. I got mine out and thawed it out and listed it and it brought 235.00. I was real happy after that. I think I got some picture on my computer of it if I can locate them I will try and post them. It looked like a white goat to me.

I took it to Sugar ridge Fish and Wildlife to check it in and was told that it was good that I shot it. They said that the albino gene pool is bad for whitetail deer and to take it out of the pool...... He was wrong. I'm guessing he never gave you a reason for the albino gene pool being bad for whitetail deer. An albino gene is a recessive gene. All that means is that BOTH parents have to have an albino gene to produce an albino offspring and just because they both have that albino gene doesn't mean the female will have an albino offspring. A nonrecessive gene means that as long as ONE parent carries a gene than it can be passed on to the offspring. There are several normal colored deer with an albino gene. When they reproduce with deer without the albino gene that doe will have a normal colored fawn(s). Because you can't tell which normal colored deer are carrying that gene there is no way of "taking" all of the albino genes out of the deer herd.
