Since it is that time of the year when EHD starts showing up I asked Chad Stewart if the IDNR had any reported EHD cases yet. Here is his answer..
"To date, we have only received one report from 3 counties of deer dying due to suspected EHD. In each case, the dead deer reportedly exhibited symptoms similar to EHD, but due to the length of time before the report was received, a collection was not able to occur, and thus EHD was not able to be confirmed. Since they are all unconfirmed records, I do not wish to provide the counties names at this time. It is important to note that last year at this time, we had several confirmed individuals from multiple counties, along with many more unconfirmed reports. EHD likely occurs in Indiana every year, but the severity of each year varies and is unpredictable. Though anything remains possible, it appears that this year we will not have the impact that we've had the previous two years. "

I was hoping I would be the only one to call you. Hoping it was just a fluke but now I guess not. We found 2 and could smell a couple more

It appears that this EHD issue continues, in some Indiana Counties. I would have thought it would have ended this year. Thus far; I haven't heard of any cases here in Ky. But several western counties got hit really hard last year.

I know a fellow who owns 500 acres or so and he found 22 bucks alone on his KY farm.....didn't even know he owned it till this past weekend......they aren't going to hunt it again this coming year!

After tonight we wont have to worry about EHD till next year. Saw a dead carcass while horse riding Saturday that looked like EHD to me in Owen County, not the first time or last time I will find this happening in this county. Nature taking care of the population via a biting midge.

Nature taking care of the population via a biting midge. I've heard several reports from friends in Indiana, that EHD is still taking a toll on the Deer herd in some Indiana counties. Thus far I havent herd such report here in Ky. but I am certain, especially in Western Ky, there are some cases.

My brother put a doe out of her misery the last weekend of firearms season this year. When he shot her he though she was a Piebald until he got down out of his tree to go field dress her. She was in very sad shape. Grossly long curled hoofs & dew claws, bald spots over her entire body, very thin, & a nasty sinus infection discharge. We checked her in & then disposed of her.

Very likely Deertracks..
EHD might have been worse this year than it was thought.
