ok so I was getting ready to do the on-line application for the state park reduction hunt... and it says I need my hunting license number for the application... I thought these hunts were in addition to regular hunts and that any buck I took on a reduction hunt did not count toward the one buck rule...... Also which license do I need to get to enter... I plan on trying for the ft harrison state park archery only hunt, but if they have alternate choices I am gonna sign up for a gun hunt in turkey run or shades.... I would hate to buy a gun license that I am probably not going to need.

Only ever done the gun hunt and I've used the firearms license number. Even thought you need a license number none of the deer count against your tags.

Any 2008 deer license will work for signing up. You can apply only once for the early and late reduction hunts. you can apply at one park for the early hunt and a different park for the late hunt. h.h.

Thanks, HH, I thought I was going to have to buy a firearms license even though I may not have to use it.

Because of "accessibility" issues up here, I buy a ML tag for the FWAs and then pray for a gun draw for DSP...

For you all new to reduction hunts think about this though...
If the area you hunt allows a buck which does not count against your license (BONWR for example) it is possible in the same day to shoot your free buck, a doe, and then BONWR will let you fill your state buck tag as well.
So you can shoot: buck-doe-buck or doe-doe-buck or doe-doe-doe. By area rules, you have to check in the doe before you shoot the second buck.
However regardless if its the bow hunt or the gun hunt, you have to have that state buck tag in your possession or you have to go buy one before shooting that second buck. (really no time when you have to be back in 1/2 after dark)
So it is nice to have that in your pocket just in case!!!

True- I guess that is just a suggestion for the military reduction hunts. If other military spots have the same rules as BONWR.
Sorry

Opening weekend of firearms last year at BONWR we were told a second buck could be killed if a doe was taken. It is someplace you could do it if you get a good spot in a good area.
