Actually, the County Cop is NOT an employee of the Berwin mayor. Berwin is a very small community in a very large County. The Mayor of Berwin is Part time and the Berwin PD is a 9-man force including the Chief.
It's quite possible that the County SWAT leader didn't know who lived there. That said, he dang well could have/should have found out. It's not like they didn't have a Name and Address right there on the Box of Pot.

Of course, as duff mentioned, there could be more to this story, but what bothered me was that the police seemed unwilling to offer any real reason as to why this happened.
Now it's looking really bad. The big victims here are good cops.

THe LOCAL Police did. The Local Chief of Poliece is righteously PO'ed. He roundly castigated the County Goons for their sloppy "police work" and the inter-departmental rivalry that kept them from calling the Local PD before the Assault.
I agree that Good Cops suffer for the actions of Bad Cops... but IMO if the Good Cops would spend more time weeding out their Mall Ninjas then they would have far fewer of these incidents.
None of this happens in a vacuum. If Peace Officers want to rgain/retain their Positive Image, then they need to forget the "thin blue line" crap and start throwing their bad apples under the bus.

The full out Gestapo approach is over kill for a pot bust. I did notice the mayor and his wife put muzzles on their dogs when that walked them, so they did have a potential to harm the cops. But it is possible they were target practice.

Okay so this mayor was not the county officers superior, come to think of it he even maybe an elected official. But needless to say I still believe that there should have been a list of the officials of each of the small communities in that county. A list of both names and addresses. As for the raid itself it reeks of KGB, Secret Police, Nazi SS tactics. Over zealousness on the counties part? Not in my personal opinion, wanting to send a message to that hamlets police department about who was the big dog in that county. Dogs were muzzled when taken on walks. Since all of the labs that I have ever met were far from aggressive I wonder if they have a muzzle law in that area for dogs when they are not in either a fenced area or home. Public area's. And yes I can see even a lab wanting to protect its master and home, but a dog leaving the area is NOT a threat. Heck a pug type dog will bark and growl. Sorry but I feel that heads should roll and all should be held accountable for their actions. This is definitely a black mark against good hard working police.
