This might be a stupid question but i just wanted someones opinion. I chew tabacco when i am out hunting is that a bad thing or not. I know it has to throw out some kind of scent which could be a bad thing. I have heard some say that they do it and it has no effect on the deer. What is some of your opinions? Should i not do it? I know i should just get rid of the whole habbit but its hard like most of you know if you have a similar habbit.

Of course it's a bad habit, but not for the reason you asked. Yes, it puts off some scent that deer can detect, but I have it on good authority that they love the smell of Beechnut original. I used to dip vanilla Skoal to keep from smoking on stand, it didn't appear to bother them. If you'd like to know how I quit smoking and dipping shoot me a PM, but you absolutely must want to or nothing will work.

I chew Cope Black and the first thing I do when I get settled into my stand is put in a dip. Hasn't bothered anything yet.

A good inner cheek or tounge removal may change your ways... I quit 4 years ago after chewing for about 14 years it's tough, but man it's worth it, I think of all the money I spent on that stuff and then I think now I can spend it on hunting and fishing stuff. What's a can of Kodiak wintergreen go for these days it was arround 3.50 to 4 bucks when I quit, if you want to quit you can, and if you do I wish you the best of luck, I know it's hard but let me tell you, you'll feel a whole lot better after you quit I promise, good luck. I'm stepping off my soap box now.

A buddy of mine chews all the time while he deer hunts. He tells about many deer coming up and licking the spit off the ground. So I say it can't hurt your deer hunting.
As for the health aspects, we all know it isn't good for you, just like smoking. Your an adult, make your own choice. If you quit, GREAT. If you choose to continue ... again, your choice.

well i had two does coming in on me in muzzle loader season straight down the same trail i was sitting on in my stand. i had been chewing and spitting on the ground. they got within 20 or so yrds. from me and got off the trail they were on went out into a field and continued the same way they were headin. i wasnt going to take one anyway but they way they acted it made me wonder if is was bc i was chewing thats why i asked. besides other scent i wear scentlok and do my best to cover my scent so if they smelled me it more than likely would have been bc of me chewing. maybe not though some people say they like it if they seems to me they would have just kept coming down the trail.

I've always struggled with this question. I quit smoking 1 1/2 years ago. Now I quit for the health reasons but thought man now I'll see even more deer. Well truth is I've seen less but the ones I have seen never spooked till they got directly downwind.

I have been chewing Mail Pouch for 30+ years of deer hunting. I always use a sealed plastic pop or Gatorade bottle to spit in. No scent problems noticed.

The debate rages on.
I try to carry a spit bottle with me, but I don't always manage to toss one in the bag. I have killed some nice bucks with a dip in. But is that Booner smelling the dip and not coming into field of vision? I don't know. I have a freezer full.

A poem... I don't smoke and I don't chew, ..and I don't go out with girls that do. Lips that touch liquor will never touch mine. My liquor that is.

I have always chewed in the stand. I guess I'm kinda like everyone else. I've never noticed a problem but in the back of my mind I'm always wondering if the big boy has held up due to the scent.

I'm with Camby on this one. But I think scent lock gear is a scam anyways. That is why God made wind. A few yrs ago I was in mid-puff when a heck of a buck stopped 20yrds broadside, thanks to obr the neighbor got to shoot him.
Just wanted to stir the pot a bit and get all the big debates in one message!!!
