I lifted this from the meeting minutes of Saturday's FWCC meeting:
1350 samples collected for CWD and all proved negative. Total of 9,000 taken since 2002 with no positives
Illinois is aggressively taking as many deer as possible in the CWD infected areas just east of Rockford, Illinois. Have not found much spread from the infested area around Rockford. Since it is an urban area with deer concentrated on a few properties, have been able to remove most of the deer in the area.
Wisconsin deer infected population northwest of Rockford, Ill and north of Chicago is in rolling hills and forest areas with a high deer population and good habitat. Have spent $32 Million so far and the strategy is not working. Have not reduced the deer population and incident rate of disease. Looking for new approach.
CWD is expanding in Wyoming and Colorado No human infection to date.
