If it gets passed and we can hunt with pistol caliber rifles will I be able to use an Encore rifle? I thought I read somewhere that it would have to be a lever action rifle.
Thanks, Shayn

yes, you will be able to use encores. h.h. As long as it fires a pistol caliber (straight wall) ammo.

From the specifications I've seen; Yes.
I've been looking at the Thompson Center Contender G2, Encore and the NEF Handi Rifle. The Handi Rifles goes for a few bucks over $200 and are available in the 500 S&W.

Types of actions were not addressed in the proposal.
Nor was a limitation of number of cartridges.

Some made the capacity a big issue, which would be irrelevant, but they try to grab at anything to 'dirty' the whole thing.Im not sure though if any semi-auto could be used, theres only one model I can think of right now anyway.

There is not limit on number of slugs that shotguns can have. I don't see why there should be cartridge restrictions on these either.
I do understand that some are going to try and get the IDNR to have our slug guns plugged like waterfowlers - which by the way is a federal regulation.

I am in full support of any new weapon to hunt with. Rifles of pistol calibers are fine with me. I have no problem with opening up the gun season to any rifles for that matter. You can currently shoot dear in Indiana with an Encore pistol chambered for the .243 Winchester and that will get your deer for you out past 200 yards. There is not much difference in that and using a Bolt action rifle except you will be more accurate in your shot placement with the rifle.

Furthermore, Centefire rifles are currently legal in Indiana for everything except deer and turkeys. So the arguement that they have too much range is hogwash! The IDNR needs to quit waffling and get in step with Kentucky, open deer hunting to highpowered rifle hunting and reduce the herd to what they deem an acceptable level.

I have hunted with high-powered rifle in Kentucky and in the thick woods, your shot is seldom over 100 yards. Also in the woods, a good 2 inch limb in your way, will knock the power out of the bullet to render it harmless. A richochet does not go far either.

Anyone know what encore barrels are available that fall under the proposal? Lots! Some from T/C and some from other makers. Some of the more common ones are: 357 Mag, 357 Max, 44 Mag, 45 Colt, 454 Casull. Depending on how the rules are written; the 500 S&W may be OK.

Yep...open the Door and away we Go!!!! The "door" is opened with certain restrictions on cartridges. I see no problem with that. The cartridges are very similar in ballistics to what we now use. Surely, you don't want to eliminate some of what we now use?

Yep...open the Door and away we Go!!!! Greg, the door was opened when they allowed bottlelnecked real rifle cartridges in those 16" "Pistols" a long time ago. No pistol cartridge, .454, .480, .500, nothing has the extended terminal range of a currently legal TC chambered in 7mm mag, .308, .30/06 etc. Heck, if anything having a TC carbine in .500 S&W is "safer" from a range/ballistics perspective than any .30+ bottlenecked rifle cartridge.

Thanks, Shayn I think your confusion comes from the original Bill proposed by Sen Waterman that cited straight-walled-pistol and "traditional Lever action (tube fed) cartridges". The intent of that wording was specifically to prevent the use of long-range spire-pointed bullets, even out of leverguns like the Savage 99, Winchester 1895 or Browning BLR - which all shoot long range spire-point boattails from box or helical magazines.

Anyone know what encore barrels are available that fall under the proposal? www.eabco.com/encor01.htmlScroll down for a list of all available custom Encore barrels. Any cartridge with a bullet .357" diameter bullet or larger and that has a case length of less than 1.65".
