OK..... So my Grandpa asked me to kill him a doe for the freezer and after a few botched attempts I ventured into the woods this afternoon at 130pm. I saw 4 white tails flagging as I made my slow approach, "Dang it!" I said to myself. I got into the woods and went up my tree. I didn't sit there 5 minutes till I caught movement, and before I knew it I had at least 6 deer moving around. It didn't take too long to realize that a buck was chasing the does!!! I was shocked....it looked to be an 8pt, but one side of his rack was busted totally off. Anyway, while watching this buck chase does I had another deer, a tall 6-pt walk out all in front of me, so I took some pics of it as I waiting for a doe to offer a good clean shot.
It wasn't too long till a "doe" walked in range, just a 30 yard shot is all I had to concentrate on. I played it just like a bow kill, waiting for the deer to step forward so I had a nice heart shot, and then I squeezed the trigger. I saw the deer instantly crumple as the smoke drifted away from my view. The other deer in the area were stunned, never running at all till I started moving down the tree. Anyway, I get down...after a call to my Papa telling him I have his doe, and make the short walk to the doe. Unfortunately when I got there I discovered it was a button buck. I got a sick feeling....cause I hate killing a deer that might someday turn into a real trophy. My sabot hit just where I had the crosshairs busting right into it's heart. Anyway, I clean the deer, get it to the truck and head to my Grandpa's house in Speedway.
Here's where the deer gets expensive! We are heading to the processor, heading down 16th street when out of nowhere, WHAM!!!! We are rear-ended BIG TIME as we drive down the street. I heard a car skidding, look up into the rear view mirror and POW the car plows me. I was stunned and after gaining my senses I checked my Grandpa, we both had neck pain but nothing severe. The kid driving the car was 17, and had his license for 2 months! The skid mark was 62 paces long, so I'm guessing 150 ft. or so. After a 1 hour wait for IPD to show up and make the report I drove home, and my Mom took my Grandpa home. I was having some pretty serious neck and spine pain so when I got home I showered and then went to the hospital. No fractures in the spine or neck, just muscle pains. So, I'd guess the damage to the kids car at $4,000......my truck had no body damage (It's FORD tough) but the frame was way bent and out of alignment. I'm gonna guess $2,000 for my damage. All that equals a VERY expensive antlerless deer! Luckily the kid had insurance.......so it's all gonna be on his nickel!!!!! Here's some pics.
