My thinking is why make it complicated when it does not need to be, raise prices slightly if needed to make it revenue neutral (what is the percentage of hunters thay buy both a firearms and archery tag?); again somehow KY can make it work. I think much of the resistance to any of the changes we discuss on here come back to people just don't like change.
What I would like to see:
First tag: 2 deer - 1 buck, 1 doe or 2 does $48.00; may use any weapon in season
Bonus antlerless tags: $15.00 ea. ; any weapon in season

My point was that the hunter in question was restricted to antlerless only, due to the fact he had already taken a buck deer. You can kill antlerless with a M/L tag on F&W properties. He had a bonus tag thats good for antlerless only.....why buy the M/L tag when you are restricted to antlerless only and you are holding a tag (bonus) that allows antlerless only? Pretty confusing, ?

cambygps,
i see what you mean now. i think the reason the IDNR does that is to keep someone or groups from killing several anterless deer from the properties. using all the tag available you can only take three anterless deer or maybe four if crossbows don't count on the regular archery limit, from dnr properties, two bow and one muzzleloader. if they allowed antlerless tags guys could pretty much wipe out the does on F&W areas and Reservoirs during muzzleloader season. h.h.

I will not deny that IDNR needs to overhaul the license/tag system we use. There is no good reason not to.
However, I am amazed that people, even die hards, do not understand when and what tags to use through the course of the year. Two of my good friends call me every time they shoot a deer to ask me "what tag should I use?" Both are lifetime holders like me. The other day it was "should I use my mz tag or a bonus tag?" He'd filled a buck tag with shot gun and a bonus with shot gun. So tag the doe that night with mz tag and save the bonus for the rest of the mz week and if not filled roll it into late archery. What is so complicated about it?!?!?!
I honestly don't see what is so difficult in learning how to manage your tags.

Thats the condensed version, but thanks for breaking it down for me..I've only been buying tags for 25 years...glad you cleared that up...You're right in archery you can purchase two tags the first archery license and the second is extra archery. You can kill two does or one buck and one doe..Gun season the first tag is a buck tag only! then you have to look at your county bonus doe info. and figure how many you can take. for my county it is 8 does. It's 24.00 for the first bonus tag and 15.00 for each additonal tag. after that... Sorry if I came across as not being nice to everyone..there goes my Kool-Aide In 25 years of buying tags i'd think you'd figured it out better than you have. Actually your first tag is an either sex tag during archery. You can start on the bonus tags during the archery season WITHOUT buying an extra archery, that is, if your not willing to take a buck with your bow at that time. If you kill your buck during the archery season you can start the bonus tags immediately without buying the extra archery tags. This will save you 9 dollars, on the third tag/deer that you buy. And so on....... i'll take my kool-aide with a shot of rum!
