Louisville KY hunter dies after falling on gun
By Charlie White cwhite@courier-journal.com The Courier-Journal
A Louisville Kentucky man fell about 20 feet from a deer stand and died while hunting last weekend in Henry County, according to Kentucky State Police.
Officials are still investigating whether the victim had a medical emergency prior to the fall, said Trooper Chip Perry, acting spokesman for state police in Campbellsburg.
Richard C. Gentry was hunting on a farm off of Maddox Ridge Road near Port Royal, Ky., about 10 miles northeast of Campbellsburg. His body was found Sunday in a wooded area below a tree stand, Perry said.
Henry County Coroner Jimmy Pollard pronounced Gentry dead at the scene, then transported his body to the state Medical Examiner’s office.
The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma as a result of the fall, officials said.
“He suffered massive internal injuries … from falling on top of his gun,” Perry said.
