WEll shucks. got a chance to hunt Monday morning. I had a Dr, appt. at 1:00 so I took the morning off also.....
The deer were moving! I got to my stand after sun up as I did the wife a favor byy taking #3 kid to Kindergarten on my way to hunt. I put a good sneak into my stand observing deer all over- 200 acres of CRP!!!!!!
only scared one off and she was well away from my tree stand. I climbed up quietly, settled in... watched a nice buck through binoculars walk across the lowest area of the farm: mosstly swamp and a good indication of which stand I'll be in next weekend. Then watched a decent doe come within range: whoosh, blam! She walked off- no flinch, no hair, no blood.
Humpfff, reloaded, switched stands- now that it was later in the morning, I got back into some thicker wooded areas... noticed a dead deer laying in a freshly picked corn field... Not long after I settled, a group of three does trotted into the field.... got a good bead on the biggest: whoosh, blam.... humphffff, walked off, confused, but no hair, blood, nothing- followed the trail on foot prints for a little- . Time to get going to the doctor, walked back out- stopped and though a little at the dead deer, walked out, propped her up (stunk big time!), reloaded my gun, fireed, kicked up dirt infront of her. realized I missed due to my scope being off- hit low by a foot three times in a row, shooting off the ground with my elbows interlocked in my knees.
Ended the day after the doctor picking up my #3 kid early and we tried to get a goose to come in close enough to shoot- had several almost close- buit his wiggles flared them- also had houses in line of fire that kept me from a free fire zone- had to be very specific of shot angles.
