I picked up a viper yesterday and ordered a gun rest for it. Was wondering if anyone has used one and how you like them? And has anyone used it with a crossbow?

The "gun rail" for a crossbow will work in some situations, but will limit your mobility.
I like to stand up to shoot as it gives me more flexibility to turn to make shots as the deer moves through.

I have the viper and love the stand..... I never bought the gun holder for it... I did buy a bow holder for it and found that it does not work with my Mathews (the roller is to big for it to fit right). I just use tree steps as hangers for my shotgun and ML.... Hang them by the sling and that works pretty well for me.

I originally had a viper but I'm a bit bigger in the back side I guess, cause I ended up trading it for a Goliath instead.

Does your viper not already have a front rail to climb with? That is all I use as a rest.

Is this the rest you're talking about? I have the razor, and I wonder if that would work on it? Probably not, since the razor has the adjustable climbing bar in the front.

I have two Vipers and took the gun rest off both of them. Seemed to get in the way while it's on your back packing it plus it looses up and isn't all that stable.
The first season I had the rest it I never used it anyway. All the shots just never worked out for it.

That's the one I ordered. It says it fits any square tube 1-1.25".Do you use a strap to go around the front of the tree? Or just use it like it is in the picture? Any other tips?

I love my Viper, although i had some noise problems when the two parts were together, carry in that i have since resolved. As far as a rest i never had one, i can see where it could get in the way? But the stand is quite and easy to get up a tree, Play with it alittle so that your not fummbley in the dark the first time out.
