When is a good date to start looking for shed antlers? I plan on doing some serious shed hunting this year. My kids are old enough to go to school this year, and I will have much more time to go out looking. I don't want to start to early and waist my time. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

at least in my area March and early April seems to be the prime time to find em as most of them have dropped. but i have found them as early as late Feb. but its some hard hunting early and i have on occasion seen them still carring head gear in early april but they are usually 1 1/2 year olds. The big boys usually drop earlier it seems like. Good luck hope you find alot and its good time spent with the kids. Dan

My boss has a couple of pet bucks, I'll be sure to post here when they drop.
If you do a search on this forum, I know I posted this year when they dropped. That will give you an idea when they "normally" drop. I think when I posted about it, it was in a thread that someone else started....

I've found them as early as Dec. 28th, but late Feb. early March is a better time to start looking.

I sometimes find a few as early as mid-January in feeding areas. But I don't like to intrude into the prime bedding area locations until March. I'd rather not bump any mature bucks out of the area.
