I am looking into buying a Polaris Expedition 425. It has new tires on it and the guy is asking $2000, and he says is in great shape and runs good. Is this a fair price for this machine, also what are your thoughts on this machine. It is a 4X4. Thanks for any input.

How old is it?

How many hours does it have on it?
Any slop in the shifter?
Does the drive belt slip on a quick take off?
Does it start & idle well when cold?
Have the valves been adjusted?
Has it been serviced regularly?
Does the motor float out at top end speed?
How do the brakes function at high speed braking?

It is a 2000, I don't know about all of the rest of those questions.

Wabash-
I have an Xpedition 325 and LOVE IT! I did have a problem with it slipping out of gear a few years ago, and that was fixed by the dealer under warranty, but other than that I have loved mine. It's gone everywhere I want it to go and pulled anything I've hooked to it. Most likely yours is a direct drive system, so there is no belt to slip. I have noticed that the Polaris' are a tad cranky on really cold mornings, but the full choke gets it to start right up. I'd say $2000 for a 2000 model is a great deal and if it's in good condition, and tests drive well I'd jump on it IMO.
