it is greedy to apply and then not go....as I was hunting one of my normal places. I could say you are greedy for applying when you have other places to hunt and some don't.

There were about 401 hunters that showed up out of over 500 that were drawn. When I checked out at dark there had been about 50 deer that had been checked in. I got a large doe and saw several deer including one small buck. My son got a shot but missed. He saw over 20 deer during the day including one large buck.

I saw 1 fawn, didn't even hear any shots that were remotely close. I get almost to my area and the gate that was open 2 weeks ago was now closed. Took me 30 minutes to back track and come in from another direction. It was very light by the time I reached my parking spot.
When were leaving seen a buck standing right on top of one of those ammo bunkers just checking out the view. That was cool.

Then don't apply if your going to be busy. It is simple they won't continue these hunts if people apply and don't show up. I didn't get drawn, it is greedy to apply and then not go....as I was hunting one of my normal places. Thanks for taking my spot! That will be quite enough of calling people greedy.

Out of all the years I have put in for it,I have got drawn once, which was in 2001 and it got canceled..We try to get everyone we know to apply for it and hopefully someone will get to go.It's not a big deal if I don't get drawed anymore.I wish they would bring back the archery hunts..

I would have to agree !!
You put in for these hunts months in advance. Sometimes things came up that are beyond your control and you may be unable to go. But to get on a forum and call someone names because they have commitments is just outright "rude".....
Maybe some people should look in the mirror before posting such things like that...

I know things come up and they have for me also. But it would be nice to have a no show program or something to fill all the spots with hunters wqho are lucky enough to get drawn. I've only gotten in to crane once since it reopened and it was a bust.

I used to put in for it and gave up. Started applying again in 2005 and have been 2 years in a row.

I've only gotten in to crane once since it reopened and it was a bust. ALRIGHT, I APOLOGIZE FOR CALLING PEOPLE NAMES, BUT IT IS FRUSTRATING TO NOT GET DRAWN THEN HAVE OTHERS WHO DID NOT SHOW UP! I agree with the above quote they need to allow the people who get drawn to give away their passes to others who applied and didn't get drawn. Like you could post on here that you have a pass and won't be able to make it, does that make since? Once again sorry for calling names, but I'd really like to have gone, and it is a little frustrating, but some how they need to implement something like this.

That makes sense, I would bet that the reason that they don't is that they don't want people "scalping" passes and they also have the background checks to worry about. Having some kind of stand-by system to draw hunters to fill vacant spots would make a lot of sense if they could resolve the background check issue.

Giving away your pass could create all kinds of problems for the hunt organizers.
It would be nice to have a back up system in place.
I know the information that I got from New Harmony it said if we could not make it to call and they would notify the next in line.
Unfortunately some things can come up in the very last minute too.

Um...wow this thread took a turn I didn't see coming. Well here is how our day went. Talked to a guy who works there and he said in our area they had done some logging and to set up on the edge of the cleared out area. I set up on a ridge overlooking one of these areas and my buddy set up about a quarter of a mile away from me. I saw nothing, but around 10 I heard my buddy shoot. The walkie talkie batteries were crapping out because it was so cold, so we communicated via text message. We get to the spot where he shot a buck and begin the task of blood trailing. We follow it into one of the "cleared out areas" which I guess means "neck high briar patch" in some foreign language. Anyway, we end up jumping him, a decent sized 6 point, he stops, but did not give us a good shot, then takes off again. We then tracked this deer for 3 hours on as little as pin point drops of blood and jump him two more times. Finally we get to a place where he gets up and is stumbling badly. I have an OK shot, but I look behind him and see a road, so I don't shoot. He stumbles off, goes down a hill and crosses the road. He stops and looks back, falls down, then gets up and limps off. I tell my buddy that we can get him now, he will either fall or stop and give us a good shot if we keep on him. We get to the road and there is a sign that says "Restricted area, unauthorized personnel keep out." We were/are heartbroken. I know we could have gotten him if we went in after him, but we didn't want to get thrown in the brig or whatever they do if they would have found us there. Then as we were leaving for the day, there was a nice 10 point standing on the side of a road watching us pass by. The cherry on top.

Right on ! Thats why I said USED to be against the rules. I thought maybe they had changed it and was just giving you a rough time anyway. BUT I would say a CB and walkie talkie is the same ?
LOL again just giving you a rough time nothing serious.

LOL again just giving you a rough time nothing serious. No prob. I'm not sure, but I think there is a difference in CBs and walkie talkies. CBs transmissions are stronger and higher frequency than your run of the mill Wally World special walkie talkie. Can you hear me now? BOOM!!!
