I had the first original Summit climbing tree stand and it was heavy. Also noisy climbing, and several times scared deer away that heard the noise going up no matter how slowly. But it was simple and I trusted it with my life going up, I weigh the time 290 lbs. without my gear, and bow or gun. Today I still use it with some quitening modifications. I used some pipe insulation to keep it quite. Also if one used big boots for their big feet like me one could not get his feet in the rubber loops they had to pull back. ( today they have the plastic foot stirrups to attach ) way to expensive but work great. So what are some other type of climbers that you like that are quite and safe. Oh, I now weight 239 or so.

I have a Summit, but don't use the elastic strap foot things. I just put my feet between the floor side bar and the diagonal support bar. It is kind of noisy to attach to the tree if the rubber is worn off the cables like mine. It's a good stand though.

Believe it or not I have had bucks come to my stand after hearing me climb down. My buddy shot his buck last year after it came to his stand after climbing down. I try to be as quiet as I can but still make some noise. Those foot stirrups made by summit are the best things I bought this year. Just get in and climb.

I have heard that Lone Wolf's are among, if not the quietest CLimber on the market... That will be my next stand next year..

I've used an API grand slam for about ten years and have no problem with it, however I just purchased a new Treewalker brand climber I will be trying out very soon. It looks real slick, is slightly lighter than the API and has a 350# rating. Personally, I don't find the climbing to be very noisy, it's those metallic "clinks" you occassionally make bumping the two parts of the stand together, putting pins in, etc. that I feel are a problem. Just take your time and go slow. I give myself an extra half hour, when I'm using a climber.

API stands used to be the best stand made for stability and strength in my opinion but thats when they were made in the USA. Now Bass Pro Shop owns them and they are made in China. I wouldn't trust one of the China made ones. My old API Grand Slam Mag climbs quiet but is a tad heavy for me to carry, 21 lbs. My Timbertall Brute Lite climber is noisy but a dream to carry at 14 lbs. A lot of the time it depends on what kind of tree you climb as to how much noise the climber makes. Trees with thick bark are more noisy to climber than a slick bark tree. h.h.

My summit came with the plastic foot stirrups as well, but i don't trust them too much. I check them before each use. Something about using plastic as a foot hold, sure its quicker but not safer than without them. When polypropolene freezes it gets hard and becomes easily broken. I don't want to be climbing and have one or both of them brake. If i were much of a fabricator i would make some out of aluminum of somesort.
Just my .02

I have two older APIs and I seen deer shortly after climbing up or down on numerous occasions. I think you should be ok as long as you don't make a lot of metallic clinking noises. Even then that may not be a bad thing, my father had a nice buck come charging to within 20 yards of him one time after he accidentally made some let some metal bang against metal while climbing his stand last year. Unfortunately for him, he was caught about 5 feet off the ground with his bow out of reach.
I don't really see the point of those plastic foot stirrups. It seems just as easy and potentially safer to just the diagonal support bar like dearbornx.

I'm new to climbers, but bought a summit viper. I didn't like the sturrips at all and use a strap on the foot platform.

I have had my Summit Goliath X2 for a few years now and love it.I trust the stirrups alot,I like them better than the system where you had to slide your feet under a belt looking material..I had the old Summit shooter 2 Boss before this one,and it weighed a ton but was rock solid..Seems like the only times my stands make alot of noise is really cold days or morning. Most of the noise comes from the foot rest.I think I either need to losen the bolts up a tad or find better bushings to put on it..
