Deer hunted yesterday evening (Sunday) and was it a very good time to be out.At 5:15p.m. I had 6...yep 6 bucks plus a doe and two fawns in front of me for about a half hour. All deer were with in shooting range ..50 yds. and less.First this 8 pt. came out then followed by the doe and her two fawns and a 6 point, then a total of 3 ...yes..3 eight pointers came out at the same time, then about 5 minutes after they came out this nice 10 point made his appearance....at that time I HAD 9 DEER IN FRONT OF ME...all at 50 yards or less!!!!!!!! I debated shooting the bigger 10 point but decided to let him slide by as he just needed another year growing his rack before being shot.At about 5:45 or so the larger 10 point and the doe plus her two small ones and the remaining bucks with the exception of two came with in 20 yards of me when exiting the field, the other two exited across from me...after that I sat until it got dark so I could get down and leave....It was a very nice evening..to say the least!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Birddog you dont hunt to far from me. What is everyone saying about the hunting down there this year. Opening day I only heard 100 shot from 7-11. It is usually in the 300's. I hunted down there the past 4 days and it was real slow. I talked to a neighbor down there and he said the same thing. Nothing is moving much and not many shots.

Well as to the number of shot's heard,I didn't think I heard the amount of shooting this year that I 've heard in the past BUT as far as the number of deer seen..I can't complain at all ...I mean I could kill a deer anytime I wanted to as I've saw deer each and every time out and all with in very good shooting distance but I've elected to not shoot as I have in every year of gun season until I get a shot at the BUCK I WANT,if he doesn't come along..then so be it,I'll wait until next year as I have one in the freezer already from bow season.
PARROTHEAD...where do you actually hunt at?

Sounds like a near perfect hunting evening birddog. Congrats on the restraint to shoot one of those bucks. Only one way they can get bigger and that is to hunt just like you did.

Let me ask you this BIrddog you hunt down there more than I do. I hunted 12 days in October down there. I saw 160 deer total. All in 3 different alfalfa fields. Come first of Novemeber I am lucky to see 5 a night. What the heck happend. Same thing happend last year and I thought maybe just the acorns, but it happened this year too. All those deer were seen in the evening too. Not a one in the morning.

Well I'd say it has a lot to do with the weather, the rut and hunting pressure.Where I hunt for one there is no other hunting pressure as far as that goes,we own over 230 acres all set for deer hunting. Then you've got this warm weather that has guys like me hunting in a t-shirt..ha!! No kidding the warm weather has a lot to do with the deer moving more at night, then the rut...I think most bucks or at least the bigger ones that are seen, are either spotted early in the day when they're generally headed to bed down or later in the evening when they get out and chase the does, granted you'll see some small bucks all day long but the big boys just don't move around until it cools off and this year that's been after dark..this is just my opinion!

I know they are there. Not all of them got killed and not all the big ones I saw got it. I hunted the last 4 days for 48 hours and saw nothing Thur. or Friday and a couple of does Sat evening and a spike yesterday evening.
