Thank guys, and thanks Woody for posting the photo. Got this dude on my own farm, right behind the house this morning. First good buck I've killed off the place since I put it all into permanent wildlife habitat a few years ago.
The place has really been holding a lot of deer, and I've been seeing a few every time I hunt here. Selected a stand this morning due to wind conditions and up until 8:00AM I still had not seen a deer which was frustrating. Decided if I was going to make a move I better do it now, so walked over to my box blind on stilts which has been a busy area. The blind sits in the middle of about 20 acres of head high switch grass, with some mowed strips you can see and shoot down.
Right as I was reaching the lane, I looked down one of my mowed trails and there was a big coyote about 80-100 yards away. I was contemplating shooting him, but he had different plans and quickly peeled into the tall grass and dissapeared. As it turned out, a good thing.
Was climbing up the ladder to this blind, opened the door and it made enough noise to spook this buck which must have been bedded 50-60 yards away. I hear the weeds cracking and turn around on the ladder to see him hauling away. Knew right away he was a shooter, so very quickly I threw the door to the blind open, sat down on the floor and commenced to shooting. He was running full tilt, making big bounds through the tall weeds. At the third shot, he dropped, and I could see him raising his head up, then disappear, so I knew I had him,or at least had him hit pretty good.
Tried to get a bead on his position, as there are no trees or landmarks, just tall weeds, climbed down and started looking for him. Could smell the "rutty buck" smell before I could see him, then found him piled up and dead. One shot had hit him squarely in the neck, and another hit him in the hips. That must have been the one that put him down. Lasered 107 yards from the blind to kill. Pretty fast and furious action for a few minutes, and big time fun.
Anyway, he's skinned and in the cooler and we munched on the inside tenderloins this afternoon. Will turn him into a bunch of italian and summer sausage, plus a few good steaks. Time to kill more does now, then a December bow hunt in IL for hopefully a chance at another buck.

Nice deer. Congrats.
One in the neck and one in the hip. One of the lucky deer. Too many hobbling around lately with nearly the same wounds.

Yeah .... my buddy remarked, that at least there was an area behind the shoulder that wasn't too shot up. He's a smart azz ! Boogered up some meat for sure, but we'll get everything we can off of him.
Incidentally ... I removed one of the slugs from this buck. It was a Federal, Barnes copper Expander, 2-3/4" and it opened up into a star shape and held together perfectly. Never saw that before.
