This might be a stupid thread but its something know one ever talks about. I dont remember reading anything about it in the hunters education course. This is how I connect my gun to my pull rope.
1. Check safety . UNLOAD GUN !! 2. Wrap pull rope around the middle of my sling one time and clip it to the rope. 3. Lift the rope to make sure the gun will be raised laying horizontally. 4. Climb tree and then pull gun up .
This keeps the barrel from being pointed at me when raising it and keeps the barrel out of the dirt when lowering. I would rather fasten the pull rope directly to the gun but havent found a good way to do it and keep the gun horizontal. Be safe.

Always an unloaded gun I tie the rope behind the trigger so the gun is pointing straight at the ground and pull it up that away and same for lowering it!! My string is pre cut and is cut so that my gun or bow never touches the ground!! Mark T

Pre cut here too so they are not on the ground....... Solohunter So when you go up a tree how is it not on the GROUND? When I install the stand I have pull up rope and it is tied off up in the stand. Then it is cut off so when my bow or gun is hooked to it, they are hanging..for example: my bow hanging at the base of a tree... you can see that I leave some slack to tie it off to the tree when not in use, also I take a green twig about 3-4" long and tie it to the end so it can just be slipped through the cam or trigger guard, then you are not fumbling around with some knot in the dark..(put a small clove hitch on it)

I have draw ropes attached to every ladder stand I have, and they are tied off to the correct length, so that my gun or bow never touches the ground.
I also carry a spare in case one is missing/frayed, etc.

I toss my gun up in the tree over and over until it sticks on a limb.

I use a retractable dog leash. Get them at Rural King, or Tractor Supply. They are around 25' long and work great. They let out rope as you climb, real nice when using a climbing tree stand. If not using a climber just attatch it to you belt loop or belt. Once you up pull your gun or bow up and then push the button and the rope will retract back inside the case. When climbing back down the rope will also retract as you are going down if you lock the button open. No tangled ropes to mess with. I always hook my gun through the stock end on my sling so that the gun is always pointing down whe pulling it up to me. My bow, I hook it through my top cam on the top limb so my arrows are pointing up and are less likley to get tangled because they are in the hood of my quiver. These leashes are around 8.00$ at Rural King and they have a good spring loaded snap on the end. I used plastic tie straps to fasten it to the top seat part of my Summit climber. That way I never forget it

I use parachute cord. I pre-hang it at each stand, cut to length so that the bow or muzzle is not on the ground.
If I'm using my climber, then I use a retractable pull up cord that I bought years ago. Looks like a tape measure, but only with a string. I have see through mounts on my muzzleloader, so I run it through those and pull it up. Keeps the gun pretty close to level with the muzzle slightly down.

I carry two pull up ropes one in each of my front pockets but don't use them unless Im using a climber. all my stands are ladder stands so i have my sling so i can put the gun strap over my left shoulder with my head threw the strap and carry the gun on my back, unloaded as i climb my stand. gives me both hands free. once in the stand i put a primer on and Im good to go. h.h.

I just make sure it isn't loaded and climb the ladder with the gun securely slung on my back.
I use pull ropes for my bow because it would be dangerous to try to climb while holding it...I generally don't bother with pulling my gun up since it has a sling on it.

Use your fingers and let the rope slide through them. If you get a blister between your fingers you went to fast.

7mm-08 pistol goes up with me in the holster. Muzzleloader goes up via Strapper around the scope What do you mean strapper around the scope ? Is this something special or just your pull rope. Are you worried about knocking the scope off of zero ? I like this idea because it would keep my scope out of the mud or dirt but would be afraid of jarring it too much.
