Okay guys will set the scene. Everyone knows that I am in the navy and such and now I am back on leave. I had from Nov 11th-Nov26th to meet my goal that I had set for myself, which was 1 buck and 3 does. I have reached it. I took a buck tonight that had me so rattled it was nuts. I reached the stand around 3pm. At 4pm I noticed a deer standing in the tall weeds along one of the boarding fence rows which is about 200 yds away. I looked at the deer through my scope and seen it was a buck. Well with it being Nov 22, and tomorrow being thanksgiving and it also being the last time I will be with all my family till next Oct I knew I had to make something happen. I climbed down out of my ladder stand and make it to the a hedge row and I have cut the distance to about 150yds. I looked at the fence row and couldn't see the buck. Well I am sure he was still there but he could have slipped out along the fence row and out into the field I was watching. (Believe me luck was very very on myside) Being so low in the hedge row I couldn't see so I went back the 50 yds to my stand and climbed back up and still couldn't see the buck that I knew had to be there. I decided to grab the rattle bag and go for broke. I hit the rattle bag hard and there he stood up and walked out in the corn field and looked around and went back to the weeds but didn't lay down. Well as before I got down and went back to the hedge row. I now can see the buck bedded. I am watching his rack and thinking of what I need to do next. Then I was completely off guard when I hear a tractor. Its the neighboring farming spreading manure. He goes right beside me and doesn't even notice me (have blaze orange on) and then makes his way towards the bedded buck. Now I was about to scream thinking that a clod of cow crap would scare him off. Well the farmer left the field and I settled back down and tried to locate the buck. I looked back at the weeds and can't see the rack. I never seen the deer run off but I can't see him. I then go back the 50yds back to the ladder stand once again and keeping looking at the weeds and then I think well the rattle bag worked before. I crash it again and like clock work he stands up and looks around. He had somehow turned around without standing up, he was facing south towards me before the farmer entered the field but after the farmer had left he was facing north. Now its about 5:05pm I get back down and head down the fence row that connects to the one the buck is now feeding on. I belly crawl to a some harry hedge trees and he is up broadside to me. I am about 125yds right now. I know I need to close the distance just alittle bit more. I look ahead and there is a maple sapling with abunch of branches that would be a perfect rest if I could make it. I once again belly crawl the next 28yds to the sapling and stand behind the branches and steady for the shot. He is looking my way, must have noticed me haha. He didn't even know what hit him. I shot and at the report, I see him go down hard. I dont see any weeds thrashing at all. It was like a huge weight was lifted. To have had the last 2 hours play out like they did makes this buck so special and he was bigger than I first thought. He is a 10pt with about 19in inside spread 175lb, he is awlful rutted out. I am sure he was close to 200lb in oct but you could smell him from about 25yds away.
He was the end to a great season. I have harvest also one doe 120lb with my longbow on Nov 14th. Then on Nov 18th. I took 2 does one being 145lb and the other 130lb. both were donated to needy families in my area.
Sorry for the story being so long. I hope everyone has a great thanksgiving.
Take Care
Eric
