guys im thinkin of selling all my deer hunting stuff.i had the nice big 8-pointer come straight to my tree this morn. not 5 yrds.out i thought spine shot but went for the lung shot.well what happened is being that close straight on i think i hit him high off the lungs and kinda of back.we found bits of blood here and there and trailed him to a field and then lost the trail best i could tell he was moving on at a good clip and gone.after the year i have had im really thinking of just quiting. ive never had a year like this ,and there is no good reason for it.

These things happen. Keep your head up. After killing three deer with a bow by this time last year, I have yet to get one clean shot this year. Sometimes it seems the luck isn't with ya.

Shake it off. The deer seem unusually tough this year.

Hang tough man-it`ll get better.
Unfortunately, and it stinks, but sometimes crap like this happens. Look at it this way-you didn`t make horrible shot selection, in fact, you even reasoned through the shot, so, you did everything you could to ensure a good, quick killing shot.
Sometimes it just happens dude. Keep your chin up-it really does get better.

That sucks man but I would keep looking for that deer . Get some buddies and do a grid search. Did you shoot it with a shotgun ? Every deer you shoot at or kill should be a learning experience to carry on to your next hunt. If you quit you gained nothing . Your bummed right now but dont let the fire go out.

No... you can't quit on us.
In 38 years I've dinged deer ever which way imaginable.
Those things happen sometimes, no matter how hard you try not to let it happen.
Get back out there and search high and low with an ORGANIZED grid search. Don't just ander around looking.
Last resort check out all the water holes in the area. Even look in the water.
After you have done all that then you have done your very best..
Then get back out there and deer hunt.
Most on here have been in your boots at one time or another.
Good luck and keep us informed..

I think about quitting every year, what with all the headaches and hassle. Days like today make me keep at it.

I think you have to ask yourself why you want to quit. Is it a string of bad luck. And like everyone else. It doesn't sound like a bad shot, just a tough deer. But if you still enjoy the hunt, then you should percivere (sp). This is the first year that I have hunted in about five years (because of work), finally I am back. When I got out in the woods this morning, just being out there working the calls, rattling, the peaceful woods. Man did I miss it. You might too. Hang in there!

And yet there are those of us who are sick to death because, yet again it looks like we won't be able to get out... except to watch other people drag their deer in.

Yep, hang in there; you have plenty of company. If it was a flat guarantee every time it would be called killing instead of hunting.

Definitely don't give up. This is the longest I have gone without getting a deer in 5 years. Lady luck will come around your way, just have to be there when she does.

Hang in there and do not give up hunting. Why? Then you will die a little at a time, and get out of shape, and not enjoy you life as much. I have had that happen and I hate it, but the deer went to the predators later, and that is not justification but it did not go to waste. Next time you will be better, and in time you will enjoy it again. Also thank God for all that you have now, and he has blessed you with the animals on earth.
