I think my dad use to pick those. I thought he referred them as Sheepheads.

I've never found one, but I did eat part of one a few years back that a friend came upon. It was every bit as delicious as a morel IMO.

I found one about 3 weeks ago, then nothing until this weekend when I found 4. There is a huge maple tree in the "back yard" that they usually grow under. The tree is about 4 feet across! I put a ladder stand in the tree one year and a 12' ratchet strap barely fit around the tree 15' off the ground.
