I can't shoot a buck, so I am going to just be doe hunting. My buddy and my father-in-law will be gunning for bucks. I asked the wife if she minded if I asked my little girl to sit in a ground blind with me opening morning and she agreed. When I asked my daughter, she lit up like a Christmas tree and was very excited. I am going to bundle her up in her snow suit and then let her put one of my camo shirts over it. What would have been a less than exciting morning for me, just became very special. Hopefully, I can keep her warm enough and we can see some deer. UPDATE: We only had to sit for about 1.5 hours. We saw a buck chasing a doe at 7:00 and then saw this deer come out at 8:00. I was sure it was a doe at 80 yards because a young buck came out behind it, but when I went to get him, I was sorry to see that it was a button buck. Oh well, it is still a great trophy since my daughter was with me and she really enjoyed the experience. She passed the time by helping me keep count of gun shots we heard. I had her take a nap in the camper while I gutted it. When we got home, she said she wished she had gotten to see the guts! I didn't expect that, but I told her if she really wanted to, she could watch next time.

Let her bring some kind of toy or something to keep her occupied if she gets bored. Good luck, h.h.

I am going to wait until next year and hopefully my wife will let me take my then 3 year old son out just to sit and look at deer. I won't even take a gun, I just want him to see some deer. He loves looking out the truck window for "baby deer". He told me that he wants me to shoot a baby deer for him. I told him that we didn't want to shoot baby deer that way they can grow up. I don't think he quite understands that yet.
Good luck to you. Hope you two have the time of your life.

I too will be spending time in a ground blind with my child tomorrow evening. My little guy is 6, and pretty gun shy, but he approached me on this one. I saw 11 does/yearlings in the corn field last week, and that was too much for him not to see! And he said, "Daddy...you can bring your gun!" ;D Bundle him up good, bring some snacks, let him bring his leapster game and earphones, and I may just bring the handheld TV depending on the early OSU/MI game score! It should be a GREAT evening!

What a great story and picture.
She is a cutie.
That is great that you two could share that time together. I'm sure neither one of you will ever forget it.

The experience is all that matters. The deer size has nothing to do with it. I still remember the 1st time I went hunting with my Dad and that was over 35 years ago. He didn't kill a deer ( I think he was moving too much) but I still remember it.
Congrats!

Thats great. It is always great to see how excited kids get when they get to go hunting with dad, or mom. I am picking up my son from school tomorrow so we can get in a couple hours in the woods
