Some friends are considering a moose hunt up in Canada. Has anyone hunted moose up there with a guide? They want to use a guide but have no contacts and was wondering if anyone had used one or knew of a reputable guide up there. They're looking to do a bowhunt up there in 2007.
Thanks!

We've got a few Canadian members.
Maybe one of them will chime in.

I did a Newfoundland moose hunt about nine years ago. Both my buddy and I killed our moose. Mine is 40" and his 54". We seen plenty of moose and some real nice caribou but no caribou tags. You may want to check out some Newfoundland outfitters and their moose population. I went with outfitter Patty & Sons, if you want more info let me know. Maybe I can get a picture of my moose posted.

This is their site www.biggameoutfitting.com/. Let me know if you have any questions. One thing I would have done different is do the moose/caribou combo hunt. I seen a couple real nice bulls but didn't have the tag to take one.

They don't hang very well on 8 ft ceilings. I had them hanging in Gander Mt in Castleton for about six months while I was getting the house redone.

I'm not exactly sure what the outfitters prices are now for moose but I would say somewhere close to $4000, when I went it was $2950. That included your lodging, meals, 1 x 1 hunter/guide, flight into camp and coming in to take the meat to the processor. We camp we hunted out of was in (Cameron Lake) approx. 40 miles north of the Park boundary. The vegetation is very wet. The call Newfoundland "The Rock", well let me say I don't know where the rock is exactly because all I seen the week I was there was "The Bog". The caribou hunt was $2850 but prices have gone up about $1500 since I've gone. This hunt was also fully guided but two hunters per guide. The meals and cabins were much better on this hunt. This was a very easy and relaxing hunt and something that if you can field quarter and take care of the meat can be done without a guide. You can get a caribou hunt for under $3000 if you want to do all the handling the animal once it's killed and do your own cooking. Otherwise it's going to cost around $4000. You can also do what they call a winter hunt and really save but you'll need to drive to your hunting camp. This is the outfitter I went with www.canadaventure.net/caribouhunts.htm

Now if you want to do the caribou hunt next year I may be coaxed into doing another before I retire. Most of the outfitters take the installment plan, three payments and paid in full before your hunt.

A couple friends of my dad's killed twonice bulls at Halley's Camps in Ontario, a few years back. They have a website you can check out.
Killed my moose in Alaska. I'd definitely give AK high marks, and could recommend a couple outfitters.

I'm going this year to NF hunting both woodland caribou and moose....I'm pumped up!! Leaving at the end of September. Hopefully I can get a 40+ inch moose and a good woodland 'bou, I've already gotten a smaller barren ground 'bou on a winter hunt a few years back!
BTW - nice animals shootsa410!!! Are you from Indy?

mullis, enjoy your hunt. How are you bringing your meat back? We shipped ours instead of bring it back as excess baggage, never again. For all the trouble I went through, mostly customs at the Indy airport, I'll pay the additional cost and and bring it as excess baggage.
I'm from Pendleton.

I hate to step in here so late but, I'm thinking about a hunt in Ontario for $1800. Includes guide, license, room, meals, & boat & gas, for 7 days. I went up there a few years ago on a fishing trip. Great people & great place. www.waterfallslodge.com We went from northern IN, around Peru, in around 10 hours. Drove part way on the way there, & all the way through coming home.
