This is text and a photo from my brother in N.C. He took these pics through his window. The photo is deceptive... the bear is a lot bigger than he looks. Check out the ears...well, the one that is still there, anyway. One huge boar ... about 60 yards behind the house. Just for perspective, those are fully mature 'tater plants on 12" hills. That is one tall bear. About 500, be 600 pounds by fall. Best I can tell he's blind in one eye, one ear chewed off, other mangled, scars on head. My guess is he's either dominant hereabouts or just a little past prime. There are others that big. Put three .30-06 rounds about two feet behind him to urge him on. Just too close for comfort! I piddle around in the woods and we both take walks around here ... I told the wife yesterday it might be best to stay in the yard 'cause there are so many around right now. First saw him ooze out of the woods right down by where she walks. Big boars like him tend to be surly in demeanor and can become nasty. I always carry a firearm when out of the yard ... well, most always. I try. Sure ain't like your neighbor's dog, ?

It's ridiculous sometimes... he lives in an isolated part of Carolina famous for huge bears (remember Coy Parton's 880 lb. Blackie ). During the summer they can be everywhere. They soon get wise when deer season starts, though. No joke, four and five hundred pounders are taken every year, and three hundred pound bears are common.
He has had them under the trailer ( trailers are set up high down there because of flooding ) one ate his flexible dryer vent hose, and just a few weeks ago one left paw prints all over the truck.
