I haven't hunted public land but I will be in the park this year and I'm wondering if it would be prudent to use a tree stand regardless of the rest of the conditions; what do you with some past experience think?

I am going to hunt from a ground blind at Summit Lake. I think I have located a place that is isolated enough that I should be safe sitting on the ground, but the concern has crossed my mind.

What are you most comfortable with , and how much scouting have you done ? If you have preselected a tree go with a climber , if not go with a ground blind .

Ive been doing the park hunts for 6 years now and always hunt off the ground. Find yourself a place that you can see good in the direction you think the deer will travel. I take a pop-up blind and only use it if it rains other wise i just sit in a folding chair with a pair of shooting sticks. Only one year i didnt kill at least one deer because i got cut off by some other hunters. The last three years ive killed 3 deer each year. Do some scouting this weekend and make sure you have a couple of other spots if you get cut off. Sit down and stay put because other hunters will start moving deer around 9AM. Good luck, h.h.

I have done both but prefer a stand, helps me stay longer and see the deer before they see me.
Mid days are excellent on these hunts BTW a lot of guys out stomping around trying to fill tags.

He cant give it to someone but he can call the park and tell them hes not hunting and they will call the next guy in line. At least thats what it says in the papers the park sent out. h.h.

I would hunt in a stand you never know when someone may be close to you and you never know where they are shooting.

Tree stand...... The guys that sit on the ground are the first ones walking around after not seeing anything after a few hours. Let them push the deer around. You'll see farther and be able to take a longer shot from a tree stand.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I like hunting both ways so I was having trouble deciding what I want to do; think I'll go up for this one. Good points on others stirring things up as mid day approaches; I like to pick a promising spot and stay put, I'm not a still hunter.

Usually by 9:30 - 10:00 AM guys will be up and moving around. Stay put as long as you can and it will pay off. Good luck, h.h.
