I got a few new camp goodies to try this season, which include a cast iron skillet and a double burner coleman stove.

I still cook over the campfire occasionally , but I now do most of it on a Coleman Fire & Ice combo grill and cooler . I like having my meats and other ingredients close at hand and kept cold , and the non-stick cooktop is a breeze to clean . It has both grill and griddle surfaces .

Just cooked boneless pork chops over a cherry wood fire last night. Bought a fire ring with a swing away grill just like the campgrounds, but better. Cold shower afterwards and my own bed!

A good campfire and cast iron gets my vote. A coleman stove if you are in a hurry and a green stick for the hotdogs, brats, grillers etc. I also like to put an old grill top over a bed of coals and cook steaks, pork chops, chicken etc.

Dutch Oven, Iron Skillet, Water Pot, Grill Grate, Porpane Stove With these 5 items you can cook & clean just about anything in camp.

I have a couple of dutch ovens, skillets and a griddle. These are all Lodge brand cast iron. I also have a few special pieces of cast iron from my grandparents and my wifes grandparents that are Griswald brand and a few butcher knifes that were my grandpas from when he was a butcher. My grandpa died when my mom was 12 and these knives are super special.

Agreed you need a fire grate or grill, dutch oven and an iron skillet. But don't overlook the coffee pot and tin foil meals.

Tin foil meals...like a hobo something or other. Burger patty with peppers and onions. Oh ya!

Along those lines, take a frozen burrito or egg rolls and wrap in foil, put in the coals or on the grate. They are good for no mess, no prep meals while camping.
