I just got my Grandpa's boat from his house. It's been sitting since taking it there last fall..... I put the "ears" on it and started it up, and it ran good......but after 30 sec or so the water that flows out of the 'pee-hole' started sputtering and virtually stopped. I realize that it could be a stoppage in that hole or line coming out of the back of the block, or it probably needs a new impeller since it hasn't been replaced in a coon's age.
I've heard that it's not that difficult of a job if you can turn a wrench, but it's my understanding that the lower unit has to be removed???
I've ordered the repair manual for this engine, but was just curious what kinda job this will be.....if anyone has tinkered with their waterpump/impeller before.
Thx

It's not too hard of a job. Drop the lower unit and you will be able to get to the impeller really easy. Go to google and type in iboats and check out that website. There is so much info and great people there that you will have it changed in no time. Actually I think they have the step by step instructions for changing it out. Good luck!

Harley, thanks for the reply! Yeah, I was on Iboats earlier and couldn't find any links that detailed the removal....just guys saying that it wasn't too hard. LOL. My biggest fear is dropping the l.u. and somehow getting the linkage screwed up.

I didn't see what year your motor was but on my 68' Merc, There are 5 nuts w/ washers and 1 bolt that you have to drop the allen bolt out of the trib tab thingy to drop lower unit. Be very carefull with the keyed shaft, the gear shaft, if you get this in wrong you'll have to drop the lu agian to try and get the keyed shaft in the correct oreintation..... Trust me i've had to drop the lu several time in the last few years. I just changed the water pump in mine last week to find the only thing wrong was the pee hole was plugged. Now i've got idle issues as well but thats a different story. Anyway, the water pump kit should have everything you need to replace the 2 seals on the shaft above the pump, the impellor itself, the 2 gaskets as well as the metal plate the impellor sits on. Al

I bought a new prop from I-boats, bent mine at Reelfoot lake. I was at work when I ordered the prop and ordered the wrong pitch. I was not aware I had the wrong pitch and installed it on my boat. On my next boat outing I discovered something was wrong when my boat would not plane out.
When I called I-boats to see about exchanging the prop, they said they could not take it back because I had already installed it. I explained to them that their web site is where I got the info for my 1995 Force 120 H.P.
They said sorry we wont take it back.
I did order the prop with the right pitch from I-boats as their prices are better than anyone else.

My problem is it wont get to redline on RPMs. I plane OK so just kept it. Ordering a prop can be real confusing. They said sorry we wont take it back. I did order the prop with the right pitch from I-boats as their prices are better than anyone else.
