I am going to Ohio County KY for their Gun Opener. My buddy from here in Indiana owns a farm that is 200 acres down there. I haven't seen it but it is approximately 75 acres of woods with the rest overgrown old tobacco fields. It is south of Owensboro appproximately 25 miles. Does anyone on here hunt in that area? I was just wondering how Hilly it is and if Kentucky's gun opener is like ours here in Indiana.(busy) This farm is not supposed to have anyone hunting it.
Thanks for any info... Copper1

I've hunted Kentucky in the Fleming County areas and yeah, it's just as big of a deal as it is here.....only difference is, you have lead flying that's from high powered rifles instead of slug guns. There's some good deer down there too, so good luck to ya!

Ohio county is a good county for numbers and quality. I own a farm in Butler Co., which joins Ohio. It will be busy with a lot of shooting. Orange hat AND vest is required in KY. If near Owensboro eat at the Moonlight BBQ!! Favorite restaurant in the world.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of the blaze orange requirements for both. I will have to try the Moonlight if I get a chance.

Just remember the blaze orange has to be solid orange both front , back & head. The camo orange is not legal. Ohio county is not hilly compaired to the eastern part of the state but does have some hills a flatland Indiana hunter may have trouble with. Ohio county is located in whats known as the trophy belt along with border countys such as Butler, Muhlenberg (my home). Gun season will bring out the hunters in great numbers and it seems it also brings out the worse in some of them so be carefull. I wouldn't count on being the only one hunting that farm permisson or not from what I have seen over the years so keep that in mind and hunt safe and have a good time. Hope you bag a good one.

My last trip to Ky (South Central) I made the longest trip, 220 miles, hunted with 8 locals and saw the only buck for the weekend. A "Huge" 8 point! From what I see every year up here it was average to small. Western Kentucky has some large animals, body and rack, as Illinois does. Be safe, enjoy the trip, bring home a doe. They are having deer population problems like we are. Don't forgat to call it in before you cross the State line. Those fines can gat really high.
