I'm frustrated!!!!! I am not seeing any deer. A couple of small bucks and a doe and 2 fawns with her. Thats it. I haven't gotten to put much time in the woods yet, due to my daughter being in marching band, but even so I would have seen 3 or 4 individual groups of deer by now. I don't want to believe that ehd did that much damage where I hunt. I did find on buck dead in the woods just before the season started but nothing else. The odd thing is that there is NO white oak acorns none zip nada!!!! Is anyone else seeing this. Now I got buddies who hunt clay and Putnam co and they are struggling to see deer also. I hope this is a coincidence and not a actual problem. thanks for letting me vent I know there is really no solution to the problem but putting my time in. Hopefully I can find one white oak that has a mast and it will be like a Casey's on Monday morning.

I have seen deer every day that I hunt (except today) for the last couple of weeks... but that first week was a rough one. I also hunt Clay County.... the problem I am running in to is not seeing any good shooters..... got my slick head down last Sunday and am looking for a nice buck now.... I am seeing a lot of yearlings and a coupel of small bucks.... not seeing any mature deer at all now..... not even does.... even the yearlings are on thier own now.

I hunt by the eel river bottoms. I hunted there two times and havent seen a thing. Every time I hunt there I hear gun shots right before dark. I have seen white oaks dropping in the woods I hunt.

I do not believe that white oaks have acorns every year. This last week of cold weather should have gotten the does to kick the buttons out of their family's. So should be seeing lonely, skinny, thin necked deer wandering alone; those will be buttons. Aren't the leaves usually changed colors by now and starting to drop, still seems to be way to much cover for this time of year to me.

Last week I checked at Tolivers in Washington County, they had checked 18 deer as of last Saturday........
This Saturday we checked at the Red Barn Bait Shop in Washington County, he had checked 23 deer to date. Both check station operators said it has been very slow, record slowness!

I've only hunted my parents place once since Oct 1, and saw 6 deer that night. That's a normal number for up there. I *always* see deer in those woods, whether I have a shot opportunity or not.
Here at home in northern Putnam Co though, I've been out two evenings and opening morning. The last evening I was out, I saw the most deer I've ever seen here at home during one hunt- 4. Had a *large* spike feeding in my food plot at ~2:45, then two does came through (too far) at ~6:20. Spooked a fourth deer as I was packing up (too early). My woods is a small section of a much larger woods, so seeing deer here isn't common.
The deer are out there, but they may not be moving through your area during the day. I'd either move to a different location if possible, or wait a few weeks when the bucks are chasing the does- you'll see 'em then!
It has been rather windy recently which will keep their movements down somewhat....

Usually around Holloween the daylight deer activity picks up for most of us. Hang in there. The season only gets better until gun season comes in.
