Something we take for granted...
Sunday Bowhunting in CT passes Senate
HARTFORD, Conn. -- The state moved closer Tuesday toward scaling back its historical ban on Sunday hunting.
The Senate voted 27-8 in favor of legislation that would allow limited bow and arrow hunting of deer on private lands on Sundays.
The bill awaits action in the House of Representatives.
"This is a very important conservation measure to address a serious environmental impact," said Sen. William Finch, D-Bridgeport, co-chairman of the Environment Committee. "Our environment is being stressed ... by the overpopulation of a large dominant mammal."
But some senators said they have safety concerns about providing hunters another day in the woods.
"I would like to have one day when I can walk in the woods with my children and my grandchildren and feel safe and be assured we are not in danger from any hunting," said Sen. Mary Ann Handley, D-Manchester.
The ban on Sunday hunting dates back to colonial times. But the Department of Environmental Protection claims an extra day of hunting is needed as a wildlife management tool to help cull the increasing numbers of deer that are flourishing in some parts of the state.
The bill allows the DEP commissioner to designate bow hunting on Sundays on private lands, with permission of the landowners, where there is an overpopulation of certain wildlife.

Finally , one of the four states that doesn't allow Sunday hunting is beginning to thaw . Who knows ? In another 100 years or so they may actually allow gun hunting too .
