I’ve been informed by the IDNR that all of these proposals that I have posted are in a DRAFT ONLY version and are subject to change before the final proposal is presented to the Natural Resources Commission in May.
The IDNR is working together on finalizing a proposal and we will be informed as soon as they have done that. That will probably be mid-April.
I will repost that FINAL proposal at that time for more discussion.
In the meantime we can discuss these DRAFT proposals, but just be aware that our discussion might be moot on some proposals as they might not make the final cut.
Interesting discussion, none the less…
Carry on….

Thanks for the Up-Date, Woody! Being just "Draft" proposals some of our discussions might be very well be "moot" on some issues. But interesting and fun just the same..

As Woody and I discussed some of these rules might disappear or get modified by what we come up with so continue the debate and be aware that the DNR and other sportsmen are monitoring what happens on this site.
There have been some good discussions so let's keep at it. A lot of good can come from this and if somebody has an idea that hasn't been thought of let's get it out there for discussion. We likely won't get it in for this package but a good idea won't fade and we can use it the next time around.

Here ya go. These are the draft proposals that i saw today that are going forward to the NRC next month:
Rabbit season extension Squirrel season adjustments Quail bag limit adjustment Youth Turkey season The turtle thing The sale and transport of amphibian thing The reptile captive breeding license Sport fishing methods except on the Ohio River Fish with no bag limit Field trial limits
If it's not listed above it is not being presented to the NRC this go around. I'll be out of town this week on vacation so I won't be able to answer your questions until I get back. They didn't many reasons for not forwarding a lot of the proposals anyway so I don't have many answers. Oh, and the Robo-duck is probably not going to be banned right away...at least not by the state.

Thanks, Jack for the updates! The State of Indiana really needs to address and take action on the current pratice of a few individuals leasing up thousands of acres, like in Warrick Co. I see very serious problems, in the not so distance future, if they (IDNR or NRC) fail to act on this very serious problem. Many Guys, that hunt in Warrick Co., are going to be left without a place to hunt. The State need to stop this spreading cancer NOW!

I'm curious how you think IDNR can stop them? Leasing is legal and the DNR doesn't have the funds to buy ground. The purchase of Goose Pond last year added 8,000 acres to the public ground inventory. It was the first purchase of that size in over 50 years so I wouldn't be expecting the State of Indiana to solve this problem for you anytime soon.

David, Are you saying that if you were sitting on 1000 acres of land and needed some additional income that you wouldn't lease it? ARE you saying that the Government should pass a law that says you have no RIGHT to lease it?.. Wow! Who's land is it? yours or the State? Does the State pay the mortgage? Property Taxes? Should they also tell you what you can grow on your land and how much? Sounds more like the Soviet Union to me... BTW> GOOSE POND took over 20 years and a lot of hard effort before we got that one done.. It still wouldn't be done if the current DNR leadership didn't have the vision to see how important it really is to our state and our wildlife....

The IDNR could buy more public grounds if the State would quit wasting money on Ball parks, new stadiums, stupid $90K Slogans Like: "Restart Your engines". Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't all monies go into a "General Fund" Maybe if they would just use Hunter's money via: Licenses fees, ect. they would have enough money. Also STOP giving Big Business tax breaks would help too.

Sometimes it seems like we're all just "Renting" the land we live on. If you are late on your rent the owner throws you out. If you fail to pay your property tax the Government throws you out!

Sounds more like the Soviet Union to me... WOW- Great Post Gundude- You are finally catching on !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROFL.... Yea SPIKE believe it or not I am all for property rights. Your feeble attempt to spin this issue to justify your High fence operation wont cut it. You shouldn't be allowed to do anything on your own land that might endanger other adjacent property owners or the State owned wildlife. Sorry but your logic is flawed. The way you look at it, I should be able to grow POT on my property right? After all it's my property! How about my Brothel? I should be able to do that too shouldn't I? How about if I start a land fill for batteries on the the side of a ridge I own near the lake? My property so why not let me do it? Hey if the lake gets polluted thats the STATES problem, I dont own it. You use a pretty broad brush when you paint Spike. Now here another little nugget I will throw you heck we may even become friends when you finally have to tear down your fence, Ill help you get it transported south to put on the border!... See I am not against ALL high fence operations ;D

drs - you said to correct you if you were wrong so consider yourself corrected. "all monies" do not go to the general fund. The money from Heritage license plates many folks have goes to a trust fund for land acquisition. There are other examples like the hunting and fishing license fees and some tag fees even the tax write-off on your Indiana return for non-game species go directly to dedicated funds. So basically "all monies" do not go to the general fund. Simply not enough of them go for what sportsmen would like.
Keep in mind that there approximately 6.5 million people living in Indiana. Only 6-10% of them hunt. I suspect the other 90% might want to have a say on how the state spends money.
Jack
P.S. The DNR did not have anything to do with wasting money on Ball parks, new stadiums, stupid $90K Slogans Like: "Restart Your engines". You should try harder to work with DNR instead of slamming them every chance you get. You might even get pistol cartridge rifles that way but not like this because they read these boards everyday.
