from the article,
"Indiana lawmakers have been reluctant to tighten the state's gun laws; but during this past legislative session, they passed a bill aimed at gang members that makes possession of phony identification a crime. They also doubled sentences for gang members who commit felonies. At the same time, they approved legislation making Indiana the first state in the country to offer a lifetime license to carry a handgun. Indiana gun laws rank as some of the most relaxed in the country. According to Americans for Gun Safety, gun shops like Don's and Bradis are among the nation's top gun dealers selling weapons that later turn up in crimes."
Seems to me we are pretty relaxed.

You bet the Star is anti-gun. I`ve written them many times about their use of the “assault weapon” phrase. And in fairness, the local news channels are just as bad, they all throw around the “assault weapon” phrase, and the non-gun owning public thinks my AR-15 and your AK-47 are full automatic rifles. Several months ago, the Star had a small column in the paper about law enforcement authorities raiding the home of a man they had in custody because they suspected he was involved in a missing person’s case. All the article said was that police raided the home, found and confiscated a “cache” of weapons, and several hundred rounds of ammunition. That`s all the article said, it never said police believed any of the weapons to have been involved in any crime, but just that they had been found and confiscated. I wrote to them and asked how that story was newsworthy when there were never any allegations by the police that the firearms had been used in any crime. Come on-the entire implication was that guns are evil and especially these guns because the man who owned them was in lock up. That`s just wrong, that they make these very subtle suggestions that influence the way non-gun owning people look at firearms. Ever see a report on any of the local news channels, say about an accidental shooting or something like that, and behind the newscaster is a black silhouette of a semi-auto pistol, or even the silhouette of an “assault rifle”, and it was an accidental discharge of a shotgun? If you care about your Second Amendment rights, you’d better pay attention to how the media portrays us and our firearms, or the non-gun owning public is going to be turned against us, and they`re going to think they`re doing the right thing by turning against us.

You`re buying the crap that rag is selling you. Our gun laws aren`t "relaxed", our gun laws favor law-abiding citizens who want to exercise their Second Amendment rights. The entire perspective was purposly twisted, think about it. The article even stated that the man they used as an examplewas a gang member from Chicago, who used fake identification to buy firearms-he was a CRIMINAL, who comitted a CRIME by using false documentation to get a gun. And the "Americans for gun confiscation, er, safety, stated that Indiana has a lot of work to do to get as good a grade as Illinois. They came right out and told you that in their opinion, Indiana needs to be just like the great communist state of Illinois, where it is extremely difficult for law-abiding people to buy a firearm. If you care at all about Second Amendment rights, you`ve got to pay attention to the kind of propaganda the media throws around about us and our firearms, and you`ve got to be active countering all that crap and giving us fair representation.

"several hundred rounds of ammo" usually means a brick of .22's. I've had plenty of cops say if they ever get a run on my house that they ain't coming. I know lots of folks on this and other sites that have small (and large) amories in their homes. So what? We are what makes America. Many of us are ex-servicemen and I'm sure most of those reporters have tons of combat experience from defending their first amendment rights just as we have from defending our second amendment rights. NOT!!!!!

(Jack steps down from his soapbox and hands Gundude his old battered M-1 and they walk off to the range) Semper Fi, Jack You've got an M1?? I would love to have one..getting a complete and not "reconditioned" one is tough and rather expensive. In the old brown boot army I got to be an "Expert" with the M1... Oh, I agree with the rest of your post too.

You bet the Star is anti-gun. I`ve written them many times about their use of the “assault weapon” phrase. They (The Star, & Other Liberal Newspapers) all think that any firearm with a detachable magazine, and is semi-auto, and has a barrel length of less than 22" is an "Assult Weapon". And it`s part of our responsibility as guardians of the Second Amendment to educate them, then demand that thet report accurately and fairly, and call them out when they don`t.

woody - of course I have an M1. My problem is that I don't have an M-14 or M-1A. That would be cool. I have a couple of friends with M-14's (yes with selector switches).

Jack Jack, If we built cars the same way we built the M1 then everybody would only need to buy one in thier life time..... Don't worry about all the other ones you mentioned. I got your back if you need to borrow one or two. Dad's service .45 is off limits though! It is truly amazing to me that there are so many in the hunting and shooting community that don't have a full grasp of the 2nd amendment and where we would be without it!...... JOIN THE NRA! Oh for those of you wanting an M1 just go to ODCMP.COM great guns!

The other one I don't have (and don't really need anymore) is a 1903A3 Springfield. I used to shoot one that our club ownd through the Civilian Markmansmanship Program and I loved that gun. It must have had a million rounds through it but it was smooth as butter and fit me like a glove and kicked like a mule. I have no use for it but I'd love to own one just to take it out and clean it once in awhile...and then there's the M-60...
