You don't need to read Game & Fish to learn that, I am more than willing to share that information with everyone free of charge. Trophy bucks can be found in the woods............ if you look hard enough. ;D

Yeah, that will tell us exactly where they are all at.. Do you think any outdoor writer would tell us exactly where the "trophy bucks" were at even IF he knew where they were at in the first place? "If you want a trophy buck, just go hunt XYZ county. That is where so and so killed one two years ago.". Yeah, right!

I have not and will not read the article. I gave up on getting my deer hunting knowledge from such magazines many years ago. I've found that the writer is not usually as well versed in deer hunting as I am. He just writes a good story - sometimes. You have to admit the title - " Finding Trophy Bucks" leads us to believe that this author can tell us where and when to find them. Maybe the title is just mis-leading?

It's not? Curiosity got to me. I pulled up Indiana Game and Fish on the net and It sure looks like the author is just reporting trophy deer by zones and counties from past seasons. It stated - "Here is the annual statewide review on where big bucks were harvested last season in our state." Good research reporting, but not all that helpful for me to "find trophy bucks". Is that not what I just posted the "article was about" or did I miss something in the article? What did you think the "article was about"? www.indianagameandfish.com/hunting/whitetail-deer-hunting/IN_1105_01/#cont

Well racktracker, since Dean Weimer is the author, the article is bound to be about nothing more than promoting the OBR.

Hmmm. Let's see.
BZZT! Wrong answer. I haven't. I dream about backstrap, steaks and jerky, not antlers. Since he is wrong in his very first sentance, why should he be right about anything else?
Meh. Let him "keep Score". I want the meat.

I already know everything there is to know about deer hunting. There aren't any outdoor writers out there who have a clue as to what they are talking about. No one is smarter than me.

The "story" is just that-a tale-it even has , gasp-OMG-Joe Bacon quoted-singing the praises of the silly obr. Go figure.
The writer gives a cursory moment to Dr. Mitchell, but, most likely, Dr. Mitchell was in awe of being in the very next paragraph after “Joe”, so I`m certain that`s why Dr. Mitchell seemed to be so much less articulate than Joe.

I don't know about this writer but I would say that the average outdoor writer knows no more about the subject matter than the average deer hunter. He just just knows how to put his thoughts into printed words and sell them. It is still just an opinion - no better nor no worse than anyone else's. I gave up a long time ago on "hunting magazines". The hunting articles are getting just as bad the TV shows - always pushing products. The only ones I take now are Deer and Deer Hunting (for good biological anaylsis) and American Hunter (NRA).

I have not read this magazine but heard from a bunch of fisherman that it was written and printed in Fla. Is there any truth to that? They were saying that the where to articles were derived from statistics kept by the dnr. One guy said that they were talking about ice fishing and the temperatures had not been below 40 yet that year.

They are probably the biggest going in outdoor magazine publishing, bar none. You are correct in that it is a national publication and is tailored to each state with some articles being in each state's magazine. Not sure about ice fishing in Florida though. They do contract with state and regional writers. Thus the article by Dean Weimer. I've seen numerous articles by him, John Trout Jr and Phil Potter among others. Most are about a big buck taken or in this case pure harvest stats. You'll see the same thing at turkey time too. www.gameandfishmag.com/

I don't care too much for Dean Weimers' writings. Would much rather read Don Mulligan or Bayou Bill.
After the season Dean will normally have a few stories about a trophy buck harvest, and those are OK.....but he is not a very open minded outdoor writer.
I have subscribed to Indiana Game & Fish for over 17 years, it's the only hunting magazine I subscribe to.
I love the camera corner!
