Looks like Marion Co. is losing any chance for gun hunters. I know not many areas there to hunt but there were a few places specifically Geist Res. and I know there are some areas where guys still deer hunt with gun. Looks like that is about to change. I checked the links you listed, but saw nothing about banning the discharge of firearms in Marion CO. PLEASE LIST THE BILL! However, this wouldn't supprise me at all as I think Indiana is becomming anti-Gun & Anti-Hunting.

I don't have the bill, it isn't a state bill, but a county ordinance. They have kept this very low profile, and have succeeded in sneeking it by everyone.

I am certain this won't "set well" with the citizens of that county. It will hurt the many businesses and Gun shops that cater to the sport of hunting. Something as important as this should be brought to a vote by the taxpayers. Keep us informed, "duff"

Well most probably won't care as it really only affects a very small percentage. Like I said there ain't much as far as hunting opportunities in Marion Co. but I am sure there will be a few that will suffer the rule change. Marion Co is in the urban deer zone.

I am certain you're right concerning hunting areas in Marion County. More or less wall-to-wall city in the entire County. A person, interested in Hunting or Target Shooting would NOT live up by Indianapolis or Marion Co. You see, this is what happens when City & County Governments Merge or Consolidate. The City ALWAYS wins out, and it's "City People" pushing their "City Ways" on us Rural Folks.

www.refugeforums.com/refuge/showthread.php?t=377296tonight's meeting at the City County Building is just a proposal. The public hearing is tomorrow night (Tuesday 9-20-05) at 5:30 pm. The public hearing will be the meeting in which public input will be taken. If anyone has any questions, call the City County building in INdy at 317 327-4242. The title of the proposal is 'Weapons Amendment'...

Wonder what the State will have to say about that if people can no longer hunt in the urban zones where deer are actually a real problem.

This whole "Marion Co. discharge ordinance" is Industrial Strength dumb[/u] I am wondering if our "Friends" at PETA has a hand in this stupid law being pushed onto Marion County Taxpaying Residents

Well I guess I can be the first to report the meeting was postponed until October 20th. Sounds like they want to put it in a time frame when hunters are thinking about something else - like hunting..

Reminds me of a time when one of the "pro-sporting groups??" wanted to ban running rabbit dogs on state owned properties.

Reminds me of a time when one of the "pro-sporting groups??" wanted to ban running rabbit dogs on state owned properties. I remember, back in the early 1980's when our IDNR was requiring compound bow hunters to "padlock" their compound bows by placing the lock in one of the concentric pully. This was required before legal shooting hours. Needless to say this stupid Indiana DNR rulling was taken off the books.

Not that it's ANY of your business.....but I was attending football practice with my son.
Sorry BUB.......but I have "real" responsibilities.
With that said, I did speak with my councilor about this issue on Saturday. I was assured that no action would be taken at the meeting on Monday. I have since received a e-mail explaining that it is NOT going to be a "Marion County" issue.
It really boils down to "Geist Residents".
The Geist area has developed into a "neighborhood" and *some* in that "neighborhood" don't want folks hunting on the lake.
I don't hunt anywhere near Geist, and I don't hunt waterfowl.....so I don't have a dog in that fight.
Ingrid Newkirk never misses a chance to get into the press either!!!!!!

Spoken like the average sportsman......
"I don't hunt anywhere near Geist, and I don't hunt waterfowl.....so I don't have a dog in that fight."
When you have a "dog in that fight" I hope the waterfowlers remember you.....
The Newkirk comment does not deserve a response........
sad individual!!!

Hm, I fight fights for sportsmen and individuals all over the state and across the country when they need help. I guess I am naive enough to think/hope that they will come to my aid when my rights or hunting grounds are in jeopardy of being gone for good!...... Think about it.
