What do you think....is it time? I'm heading out tomorrow...and again Friday. I'm thinking of trying the rattle-bag....

Scrapes maybe. I've been seeing a ton of them.
Younger bucks are still running together. Any fighting they are doing right now is general sparring. Of course there are exceptions. But IMO, it is too early to do any rattling. The last couple days of October have worked for me in the past.

Ive been running a dripper in a mock scrape for 4 weeks now using doe urine and some buck gland scent. Sunday while refilling the dripper i noticed a buck had horned up the limbs and scraped it more. Im going to put in a small amount of estrus scent this weekend to simulate an early doe. planning to starting hunting this set up a week from Thursday. h.h.

The bucks in my area dont seem to be quite ready for rattling, I have been seein bucks almost each time out and last saturday morning i had a nice 8 pointer come across a bean field about 160 yards away so i just hit the rattle back a couple of times, he stopped in his tracks, looked my way and then bounded off to the creek bottom without hesitating. It will be soon though!

Heck yeah! Bucks are laying down territory & advertising scrapes this time of the year. Use buck scent & doe pee in your mock scrapes this time of year. The less dominate bucks are still establishing themselves in the local pecking order & have been bumping antlers with the local boys since last month's velvet shed. I tickle the bag this time of the season just for an attention getter for any bucks in the immediate area.

I'm with Deertracks on this one. A little rattling and a grunt here and there might just temp the curiosity of that buck.

On 10/18 of last year, I rattled in a NICE 8 pt...didn't get super aggressive with the horns, but enough for a deer to hear pretty far off..... Well, watched him charge across a set aside field, hop the fence, come to within 50 yards of my stand and then caught the trail I walked in. Locked him up for about 5 seconds and then all I saw was white tail heading the other direction!!! DOH!!! (In my best Homer Simpson voice).
Chalk up another lesson learned! ALWAYS circle in to your stand away from where you anticipate the deer will be coming.!!!

Oh ya it should start to heat up real soon, A little horn rattling just might get them to come and see? I have also noticed a big change in the way the woods is starting to look, couple more weeks and the woods should open up a bunch? saw a fresh scrape just inside the woods i hunt that is probably 2'x 2' and it is and a nother one about 60 yards away little smaller but real fresh also. but still alot of standing corn still up, but there hitting the woods more and more, the acorns are everywhere in this area. So its just timing it right with work and i should connect on a big doe, and hopefuly mister big, I Have 21 days left of vacation that starts Nov 5
