David Smith-the guy I went in "buddy system" with in '75, got sent to "8th and I" after boot and was on the Silent Drill Team. Went up several times from Lejuene to watch him. Really a special show. "DW" Smith just retired last year as a full bird and was at that time the Communications Liason for all the NATO forces in the mideast. I think that says something for the caliber of people that the Marines select for these special drill teams! Semper Fi!

Dang! He went from boot like us to full bird colonel? Now that's dedication.

From enlisted man to full bird colonel is quite an accomplishment.

DW's dad was a Warrant Officer in 'Nam and picked up a full commission and also made full bird before he retired so I'm sure there were big foot steps to follow. After DW's first enlistment, he went to Va Tech in their Platoon Leaders course where he picked up his commission. In my files I have a Christmas card from DW that was hand drawn by one of the wives from the Presidential Helicopter Sqaudron from when DW was serving as the Communications Officer there. Certainly not a card to throw away.
