Looks like the case length restrictions would include up to the .500 smith and wesson round. It has a 1.625" case length, but I don't know of any companies making rifles or barrels in that round.

I think you can get an encore rifle barrel in that caliber.

I think you can get an encore rifle barrel in that caliber. Probably. If not this season, they will be making them soon. Also, here is a link for case dimensions for about every round I know (and some wildcats I've never heard of) stevespages.com/page8d.htm

Well there you go. I have an H&R in .17 HMR. Love that little rifle. They are a bargain for the groups that they shoot.

You could easily get one of those rifles rechambered and bored.

Matt - we sorta fixed the gate. We'll be back down to do the other side. Looks like somebody drove over it with a B-I-G piece of equipment. Didn't get a chance to scout but maybe next time.
Jack
P.S. Let us know when Wal-Mart has a sale on lever guns in the proper caliber.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's a helluva thing killin a man. You take away all he's got, and all he's ever gonna have. That's right. I've killed women and children. I've killed just about everything that walks or crawls at one time or another, and I'm here to kill you Little Bill for what you did to Ned.-Bill Munny

Letter Sent. (Again) I've been in contact with Waterman & the DNR on this for a while.
This is important. It begins to bring some logic and science into the picture.
When Sabot Slugs start being accurate and useful out to 300yds, there is no reason on earth why ANY rifle/bullet combination with the same ballistics should be dissalowed, whether it's pistol calibers or ANY of the old tube-fed calibers from .30-30 to .45/70.
Ballistics is Ballistics. Period.
(Just like there is no reason why I shouldn't be allowed to use a Ruger Old Army C&B when my loads exceed the ballistic specs of the "Legal" 45LC factory loads...)
This rule will both make it easier to hunt, and to teach hunting. AND (and this is important to the State) it will bring in more DNR dollars.
The "no-way-no-how" NIMBYS need to lose this one.

I understand that the IDNR is recieving LOTS of positive emails on this subject. I wouldn't go shopping for a lever gun just yet, but close, very close.

Not that I really care, but I wasn't aware of people shooting sabots from a shotgun out to 300 yards.
Jack, this time couldja give me a key? lol
