I'm in the market for a .22 caliber rifle for target shooting and squirrel hunting. I want to spend $300 or less on the rifle alone. Any recommendations? I've been looking at the Ruger 10-22, but I think I'd rather have a bolt action. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!

Rugar makes the 10-22.
As far as a good .22 for $300 or less you are nearly limitless in options. I do not own one and have not shot one, but I have heard wonderful things about CZ's. I imadgine you could get one for around $300.

CZ model 452 "American", or if you want open sights then their "LUX" version. Other fine rifles are: Ruger's M-77/22, and Remington new model 5,

I like my Savage Mark II with a bull barrel. It shoots as good as i can. It did take a minor trigger job to get some of the creep out to my liking. Gun costs less than 200.00. mike

Can't go wrong with a Marlin- I've got 2, Dad has another one of mine for a total of 3. I shoot the Model 60 the most, but all three have been and are tack drivers.
Kevin1 had a post in the last week or two about picking up a bolt-action Marlin in .17. Might want to consider something like that, in a .22.

I love my little Ruger 77-22 bolt action. Identical to their full size model 77 hunting rifles, just scaled down a bit. Same action, same safety, etc. A good weapon to practice with.

I have both the Ruger 10-22 and Marlin 60, I like semiautos and both are excellent for targets and squirrel. Either can also be accurized to shoot as well as any bolt out there. The 10-22 was $216 at Wally World when I got it, the Model $60 was clearanced at Wally at the time of purchase for $90 but normally goes for around $160.

Two letters are beating Anschutz's in the accuracy department, and everybody else in the looks department.

I say buy American made no matter what kind you buy. As you see everyone has their favorite brand so find one you like and buy it. h.h.
