Bear recovering nicely following face surgery A black bear that was found near Stanley late last summer after it had been shot in the face is recovering well after a surgery in January to repair a gaping 2-inch hole in his face, according to the director of a group that does bear rehabilitation. "He is doing just great. He hasn't bothered the stitches or the surgery at all and is the perfect patient just as he has been in the past," said Sally Maughan, founder of Garden City-based Idaho Black Bear Rehab, in an e-mail Thursday. "I'm pretty confident we will be able to release him." Black Bear Rehab is caring for the bear until he can be released into the wild. The 150-pound bear, which is believed to be about 3 years old, was one of 53 the group took in last year. The 35 to 40 stitches that were needed to close the wound in the bear's face haven’t yet been removed, Maughan said. www.idahostatesman.com/eyepiece/story/289909.html
