Lost power last night around 9:00 or so. I was in the garage working on turkey calls; kept working for a few minutes by light of flashlight figuring they'd come back on... Then the wind picked up and started to sound like the stereotypical "freight train" and about that time my ears started popping. Don't think I've run into the house that fast before!
We got the kids out of bed and under the stairs, rode it out there. Didn't have any damage to the house or other buildings that I could see this morning, but did have some limbs down. One missed the garage by only a few feet; had it hit there would have been some structural damage for sure.
Still didn't have power this morning so I decided to fire up the generator and get the 'fridge and freezer cooled back down. Got the generator dug out, fired up and about the time I grabbed an extension cord the power came back on. Go figure.
A neighbor 1 1/2 miles up the road lost a pole barn, another one 1/4 mile up the road from them lost part of a barn roof. The Bainbridge Fire Station had major damage; roof and insulation gone, communication antenna is down, etc. We only live about 5 miles as the crow flies from there. Mobile home (one that had been put on a foundation) 1/2 mile south of the shop was shifted about 4 feet to the side this morning, numerous trees down everywhere. Our greenhouse at the shop will need to be re-set- it's kilted over at about a 20 degree angle right now...
All in all, we got lucky. At this point I don't know if it was straight-line or a tornado, but either way it did get NASTY last night.
Hope everyone else got through it OK.
