I know that I can't reply on the "Ask A CO" board, but they've gone too far when they require a permit for that!! parson

The title of the thread was "Goose Permit" It made sense to me, and struck me as funny at the time, but then, my wife says that my mind don't work right. parson

Ah, I see. If I could legally goose anyone I want, I would surely get little work done, as there is a college nearby.

Parson, I believe what you are referring to is the request for a goose permit for the *special* season that started today in certain counties.
While I don't claim to know everything about them, AFAIK, they serve the purpose of allowing the state to send out surveys at the end of the season. The special season this year is the first time there has been a late season and the state wants data on it. The permit is free, so it's simply the hassle of getting one that's been the problem from what I've seen.

danf is right on target about the reasoning behind the "Special Goose Permit." The problem is that there are lots of guys that applied for the free permit, but never got it because of overwhelming response to get it. The DNR couldn't handle the demand, so over the last week when all these guys that were waiting on it to come in the mail never got it and called to find out where it was, they were told they had to go to a F&W area or State Reservoir office to get it in person. IDNR really dropped the ball IMO by not anticipating the response, and then when they WERE overwhelmed, they should have issued a statement on the situation and how to remedy it. As it stood a lot of guys were screwed over. They could have easily ran the permit system through the same on-line licensing system and it would have been totally automated rather than e-mails pouring into one guys e-mail account. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes and it's better next season (if the numbers allow for a season like this next year).

I understand the intent of the permit. I was taking a stab at making a "funny" regarding the issuance of permits for "goosing". Oh, well, they can't all be zingers! parson

For deer hunting all we need to do is write on a piece of paper date of kill, sex of kill and our names and addresses. Do you think the DNR trusts us deer hunters more than the waterfowl hunters?

Goosing is a family tradition in my family. I can rember as a little boy my granpa and uncle sitting on the picnic table at camp between runnin lines. Sip a few suds and and goose anything that came within reach. Even the dog was fair game! No bag limit, no permit and no limits on sex or size! ;D
